Is it possible? I don't think it is. Help! I have spent many hours on it.

Hello. So far you all are wrong [aside later] you can't just insert page number and begin counting --- Word screws up and makes all the numbers the same!

Now, aside, I realise I can make two documents for the ToC and the TP; however, that greatly weakens the ToC feature in Word! And is a stupid way of having a document -- two files, pish.

Give it a try -- if you do not believe me. I've had several people look at the situation and give me your guys simple replies and I say "show me" and they see that it can't be done.

So does there happen to be any professional Word users out there?

If there is no "new number one page" option, like tonalc said [I don't see it in my version], can you create a separate file (document) for your Title Page and Table of Contents and print the two files separately? (That is, put those pages in one file and program Word not to number the pages; then print the second file -- the body of your work -- and program Word to start numbering on the first page. Then assemble your work after both files are printed.)

You would just have to copy/paste those pages to a "new document" and delete them from the original.

(Perhaps, copying & saving the entire document (complete as is) -- somewhere on your computer -- would be wise, before you start copying & deleting things. Just a back-up.)

??

im assuming you already know how to insert the page numbers now to do what you said, i still haven't found a way to do it like you said, i.e. have the first two pages without page numbers but the rest of the pages are numbered the only solution is to create two documents after finishing up everything cut and paste the first two pages (or the pages at the beginning where you dont want the title page) into a another document in the first document where you want page numbers, double-click on the footer (or edit the footer) the toolbar should automatically change to the "Header & Footer Tools" then look at the top left of the tool bar; you should see the 3 buttons - Header, Footer and PageNumber click on PageNumber; then click on FormatPageNumbers from the menu there should be an option to "Start At: ___" under the PageNumbering section type the page number you want to start with in the box and click OK and thats it

I'm not sure but you can always just separate the Title Page and Table of Contents into another separate document.

Go to view--header/footer. There's an option for "new number one" page.
