BIBLE, 1 timothy 2:12 "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

==========================

Why does the bible subjugate woman? i mean why woman cannot teach. Whats wrong in that. Do you consider woman to be illetrate by nature or just because of gender? I have seen some woman who are more intelligent than man.

not to offend any Christian. It is just a question. YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE!?

It is a fact the bible is MAN written and women are taught to be submissive!
I believe women are not taken seriously when preaching the word.
But, spreading the word is seems to be more acceptable!
Sad, but true!

Being a woman and a believer in Christ and His teachings in the Bible I would have to say that first, the scriptures in the Bible that are viewed by some as "sexist" are usually not studied thoroughly and/or are used out of context to please certain doctrinal beliefs, certain people, etc. It does not have a lot to do with who translated the Bible.

It is my belief however that God chose a woman ( Mary) to carry the living Word (Jesus), So why would God stop her from carrying (or teaching) the written "Word" (Bible). I firmly believe that women are to be teachers etc. if that is what they are called to do. As for the Scriptures in Timothy, Ephesians, etc. Those were certain churches that had problems or needs that were not being dealt with at the time.

There are also several examples of women in the Bible (the OT and NT) that taught and were in charge over men, examples of these would be Deborah (Judges 4:4-14), Priscilla (Acts 18:24-28), Daughters of Phillip (Acts 21:9), etc.

If your a reader, which It appears that you are, look at the first
account of what happened.
From the garden of Eden, there was deception that was offered
to Eve (mother of all living) that is why I believe that there is a
restriction placed upon women, when teaching men.
When the level of authority is "leader" GODS' preference was
man.
The question you've asked has caused many people to turn away
from "those that would be leaders" due to jealousy.
The woman is not subjugated, think about it, who has the greatest
role in teaching children.....Mom (woman)
I believe it was Euripides that said.....
"oh what a power is motherhood".

First of all, the Bible does NOT subjugate women! The Bible teaches that women are to be treasured. Too bad men can't figure that out.

Now, bear in mind- I teach. Religion, as a matter of fact. I run religious education for a Catholic parish.

This scripture is a reminder that a woman's true place is not to be out working, but to be caring for her home, husband and children. I consider it no small blessing that, despite the size of my family, God provided my husband a job that could support us all and allow me to stay home and play with my kids all day. That is where a mom should be....and the job didn't come until I 'gave up' my 9-5 to stay home after our third was born. Now that my kids are all in school, I have a little job to keep me out of trouble.

If women realized they should be raising their kids, rather than letting the sitter do it, and families lived within their means....there would be better paying jobs available so men could support their families without the wife working.

The Bible does not subjigate women, just the misinterpretation of mankind. The Bible is a book of spiritual truths and revelation about the nature, character, and personality of God. It was written by men under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit, who is an equal part of the trinity of God. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three distinct and separate personalities all working in absolute harmony with one another. Since the Bible is a Spiritual document, only those who are filled with God's Spirit can see and understand its message. Every human being has an equal opportunity for this Gift, but it carries a great responsibility that not everyone is strong enough to bear. It requires obedience and absolute faith, and the first part turns people off. The knowledge of God revealed in the Bible is like a large Diamond. If it is thrown into the hog pen, it will not impress the pigs in the least, but they will simply tread it into the mud and it will accomplish nothing and do nobody any good. When we seek to know God, He will make that knowledge available to us when we follow His preset rules for fellowship. Jesus is the bridge between a fallen world and the Holy God. It is faith in Jesus, and obedience to His Word that allows God to impart a portion of His Spirit into a person, and it is that impartation which opens the spiritual eyes of the individual and allows them to rightly devine the scriptures. Just as it is impossible for a hog to appreciate a diamond of great value, it is impossible for those who reject Jesus to be privey to the treasures of the Bible. I said all this to come to this point. In the days of the writing of the scritures, women were not allowed to be educated, and only men were allowed to study the scriptures. The inferance that women should not be allowed to teach was in reference to any who were without the proper teaching, those who were not fully educated in the area they sought to teach. It was not an effort to subjigate women, only an analogy of the uneducated and unprepared being allowed to teach others while they themselves do not fully understand. God does not see male or female, prince or pauper, clean or unclean, but He is only interested in the heart. A well known author quoted this in one of his books, " The technicalities of religion have no place in the mind of God, But it is the heart that matters most". Though God did not make men and women equal in some things, He made them Partners in all things. For more info on how to get understanding of the Bible, please visit revelation-nation.com

Give me a break. Instead of asking about the teachings of the Bible, ask yourself who translated your version. The King James version and several others are translated in a way that supports the then-moral constructs that oppressed women within the Church. Compared to some of the pagan religions previous to Christianity, this is a super strict rule that really has no meaning. Reconsider a religion that follows blindly from a book that baised and inaccurate. There is more explaination in my source.

Oh that woman can and do teach is not the issue, but what and why. By virtue of the fall females are more prone to deception, error and folly. It is through their highly charged emotional ‘soulish’ charm that they lead their captives prey and lead multitudes astray. Their teaching and preaching can only pollute the waters of pure Christianity, while claiming to cleanse it. What foolishness. You can trace the decent of Christian doctrinal purity with the rise of female impurity in the modern church and in society in general. Sorry, but the Scriptures are plain, firm, correct and unchanging in regards to woman’s role in the Church, even if the men in the modern church aren’t. It is a wonder that there is any truth left to defend, after women, in general, have marginalized, emotionalized, and emasculated it. Men who give credence and preference to female teachers and preachers, and for that matter to any female, be they mother, wife, sister, daughter in the rendering of a final decision of a spiritual nature are, in my opinion, worse than infidels and deserved to be deceived.... But maybe THAT is why my wife divorced me. Still, I stand. Alone and unashamed (and undated). Oh well, a small price to pay for unadulterated truth.

If you continue that line of logic, then it would be forbiden for women to teach their daughters to cook, clean, a take care of a house. And that doesn't make sense, so perhaps you missunderstand.

It was appropriate, for women to teach what they knew. How many women were rabbis, two thousand years ago? Would it be appropriate for an illiterate woman (of that day), to teach church doctrine?

The world is changing, for the better. Please don't present evidence of our progress, as an accusation. You may convince some men, that women have a rebelious spirit.

You may have noticed how many sunday school teachers are women. And nuns.

That was the opinion of the writer, Paul. Time healeth all wounds, and women are more accepted since biblical days. The bible changes with time like most other things, no one is stoned to death for example.

I'm not sure where but the Bible does reference women are not allowed to preach, such as a pastor or a rabbi, but they are to teach. Sorry, I can't seem to find the passage right this moment. Proverbs 1:8 "...And do not forsake your mother's teaching."
