I never could do a correct push-up and have avoided them for about the past 4 years but now I want advancement in rank and the only thing thats holding me back is physical training.

My sit-ups are the only thing I am comfortable doing. My run is nun, and I can't break the plain in my sit-ups. Some one please give some advise.

Try wearing wrist weights during the day, even if they are only 5 pounders. That will constantly work the muscles in your arms and shoulders. Beyond that, practice, practice, practice.

In high school, I was exactly as you describe at the beginning of one year.

Our physical education instructors had us alternate between running/stretching, and exercise/warmups. On the running days, which were outdoors, we also did plenty of situps, pushups, etc.

Like I said, I started off pretty incapable as far as push-ups went. A few months into things I was able to do a couple score of push-ups. I do not remember how long they took, but I remember I sure was not trying to draw them out and do them slowly!

You have almost 5 seconds per push-up to do your 25. You probably will not take nearly that long for most of them during your test, though you will probably slow down some near the end if you are getting tired.

You should go for all out health thing, without doing any one thing too much.

Cut out sugar, artificially-sweetened, and snack foods. Have fruit for dessert. Natural fructose has lots of calories in it like sugar. However, unlike sugar and corn syrup - those calories are burned over a longer period of time. That gives you a steady stream of energy. Instead of wasting it in a bonfire that sees it turning to fast instead of used for energy that builds muscles.

Look at the nutrition label on a loaf of bread. One slice of bread has a ton of calories. It might as well be cake, practically. Put two slices together, and you double that. And there is practically zero nutrition in bread. Vitamin B, sure, since they enrich it. But that is moot, and I will tell you why.

You can get vitamin B from green vegetables, as well as a regular men's one-a-day vitamin tablet - or a nutrition cereal like "Product 19" or "Total", which is almost the only kind my parents ever bought when I was a kid.

Calcium and iron is used to build muscle. Well, iron builds it but calcium helps it contract. Don't try to O.D. on either one by taking ridiculous amounts of supplements, you only need 100% RDA. Too much iron or calcium might give a male a heart attack. Not sure, but that might be why men and women's multi-vitamins have different formulations. If the extra iron did not matter, men could just take women's vitamins.

Do not overwork any particular set of muscles day after day. Take turns working them on alternating days.

You will need a strong back and maybe legs too. It is not all arms.

They might be strict about keeping your back straight. You can find out by asking and watching what a regulation sit-up is, probably.

By the way, it is hard to see if your back is bowing when you are practicing, so you might want to have a want to have a trusted buddy watch you sometimes to see how straight you keep your back. Plus, he can show you by demonstrating, what your back is doing if he sees you bending it.


Get plenty of rest each night. Try for 7 or 8 hours, even if that is more than you usually get. All the exercise you are getting each day will make it easier to sleep when your head hits the pillow at night. You will not have to "wind down". The endorphins and physical activity you have gotten will see to that.


A month seems like it is cutting it pretty close to go from zero to 25 push-ups. Even if you do not make it, you will be better off health-wise - which affects how well you do everything you do. You could make it though.

Don't overdo it. Don't slack off and underdo it.

The best way to get the right form is to learn from someone who can do it properly. I know it's kinda shameful to ask but no one's gotta do it for you if you don't ask. Doing 25 in 2 minutes is easy, in my opinion. I do pushups regularly everyday, and practicing everyday is the best way to get used to it. Start off easy, say 5, then build up on that by adding a few more until you can do around 25-30. Then time yourself and see if you're below the time limit. Good luck!

Well then you'd better get started, soldier! LOL Seriously though, the push-up is an easy thing, If you did 1 today, 2 tomorrow, 3 the next, and so one, you'd be ready in a month. Do ONE correct push-up, though, then 2, then 3....etc.

My advise : DO NOT SIGN IN THE MARINE CORPS !!!!
At Boot Camp in Parris Island, South Carolina , there is
much more than push ups.....My gran daughter signed
in at age 18. She had a perfect model 's body...After graduation ( she graduated with honors ) her body was
a mass of muscles ! She almost lost her graceful figure
and only after many months at Miramar Base she recuperated it. If you are about to sign in the Military go NAVY or Air Force..

25 push ups in 2 minutes will score you 100 on the APFT if you are a 62+ female.

good luck, it took me a year of conditioning but if u focus on push ups alone, maybe a couple months.

try n see, maybe u're faster than me.

Well, you can lift weights, start off with small weights, then gradually get to heavier and heavier and heavier weights!!!!!!!!!!!!
