I liked the 16 ounce Everlast for practicing when I started because it was heavy and made me really work out to be able to swing it for 3 rounds (amateur). It lasted me my two years of boxing. For my fights I had a pair of 10 oz. that's the AIBA Approved Amateur Fight Gloves weight.

i will give you advice on gloves that will last a lifetime and yet cost less than your regular mall or sporting goods store boxing gloves...

go to http://www.kofightgear.com/sparring_gloves.htm

their gloves are 100% genuine leather unlike most of the synthetic ones other people will advice you to get.... their service is great... they cost hundreds less than a cleto reyes or a winnning pair of gloves....

the thumb is attached with thick leather so no unintentional eye poking can occur...

good luck on your purchase...
