hmph. being a guy, i dont think i can answer for everyone, but i think when a girl plays hard to get it can do one of two things: 1. make a guy fed up with a girl he doesn't really think he likes, or 2. attract a guy just because of well...because of some weird forces in the world.
but there's one thing you can be sure of, if a guy's attracted to you when you're playing hard to get, he definitely likes you, and he's the person you should focus your attention on.

Everyone is different. Some men like to "earn" a woman's "heart" and prove to himself that she is not "easy" because he had to put effort. Others think that a woman that plays "hard to get" is a "tease" and a waste of time. If you ever read any pickup artist material the concept is that the less you know about a person then the more "mystery" they have and the more inquisitive you will be towards the person. It is like lingerie which is sexier than nudity as it leaves something to the imagination. The less the guy knows about you the more his mind is supposed to work and ponder about what you are and that up's his expectations in his head. Be direct and either you are his type and the relationship starts really quick or end up cutting your losses because you two aren't compatible.
I personally like it when a woman is flirty and playful but not hard to get i.e. lies about her feelings or tries to hold back the progression of the relationship.

Some guys like girls who play hard to get some don't. Instead of making assumptions I would flirt and let him know your interested. You can always switch it and play hard to get if this doesn't work.

No, men don't like girls playing "hard to get", maybe the boys do. Most guys with jobs and a life don't have the time or patience to have another problem / mystery, when in stead he can have relationship immediately.

hard to figure out. if you play hard to get from the door he may not even notice you. so grad his attention some how and once you know he looked at you then play hard to get
