First off, it depends on which religion you are talking about. I would assume that if you are american you might be talking about some string of Christianity.
Let's take a closer look at that:
YES, to answer your question; all religions have liars and hypocrites. There are two main reasons for this. 1) Religion, charity, and anything that sparks hope in the lives of the masses is an attraction for decieving people to make a living in. 2) ALL MEN HAVE SINNED. Regardless of what religion you are, you must admit that no man is perfect and all have made mistakes.
HOWEVER, this does not mean that all people who are involved with religion are liars or hypocrites.
Now, looking at Christianity and assuming you are not one:
This is a religion that tells its followers that it is the ONLY true religion, that there is only one God, and that it is thier duty to help as many people as they can to "see the light".
Now think of a parent with a young child. The child is told right from wrong. The child does wrong anyway. The parent calmly tells the child he did wrong and corrects him. The parent explains why the child must behave. But even the most perfect parent will wear down and yell at the child later on if the child keeps acting up. It's like the carrott and the stick method of training.
Compare this parable to the idea that Christians are trying to love others and trying to show them what they believe is right. Not only do we Christians BELIEVE that it is right, we believe that YOU WILL DIE if we do not do our best to save you from your "sinful ways". Therefore, most Christians start out trying to use the reward concept of heaven and friends and a good life, but in the end, some Christians revert to the punishment concept of scaring you about hell.
Then of course, you have to remember that because man is not perfect, we are all continuously living in a sinful world and must repent for what we know is wrong. Therefore a religious person can be trying to help save your soul and put you on a good path, but at the same time fall from his path himself.
If you are curious about religion and the reasonings about certain things I suggest you honestly research it to find what you believe. If you want to understand Christianity more, including whether it is true or all just a big lie, I encourage you to read some books by Lee Strobel, particularly "The Case for Christ.".
He was an athiest and a journalist that was hell-bent on setting the record straight. And he did!

So, you're saying we religious people are not very tolerant? Is that it? Thats a lie. We are very tolerant. Now shut up ya mook and keep your opinions to your self.
JUST KIDDING. We do have a sense of humor. Honest. Uhm.., could you step back from the gun please... if you shoot me you *will* burn man.., the electric chair is really hot and will make smoke billow outta your nose and eye sockets like two 1890s freight trains collision bound... its true! And then there's the hell prospect. Not a good thing, nope, not good at all.
Oh to answer your question - there are hypocrites in every facet of life including the devout secularists. Christians, do not have a monopoly on hypocrisy. Not all Christians are hypocrites. Just an FYI

Some are ignorant and slavish to others dogmas, however, if you attack people of faith then do expect some retaliation.
The only thing being asked that we all try to live and let live. There must be things we can all learn from each other (religionists and atheists). I don't believe anyone on earth has a monopoly on knowledge. Even scientists, politicians, economists etc have been making mistakes all along and will continue to do so.
So, you may question others belief and try to find out why etc but don't attack because you don't possess all knowledge - you are as fallible as the next person.
Good luck.

Could it be because they are religious and not spiritual at all? Sort of like the Pharisees in Jesus day. They like to follow the letter of God's Law, but not the spirit, which is Love.
I'm not aggressive nor do I want you to burn in hell. Neither am I a liar or a hypocrite, I just do my best to follow Jesus' example in my own life because it brings me closer to God to do so.
Please remember there's a difference in "religion" and loving God.

I am an Atheist and I don't agree. There are jerky, intolerant ppl in every group. Most ppl I know are Christians and they are not liars or hypocrites. Just like I don't want to be pre-judged because I am a non-believer, it's not right to pre-judge Christians either. 2 wrongs don't make a right!

a lot of people are very defensive about their faith. Christians are defensive because they're told that everyone is against them, and people who aren't christians are defensive because Christians will look them in the eye and say they're worshipping the devil and are going to hell.
yes is hypocritical. and its sad.
but its the way the world is. :-/
i personally dont think anyone has the right to say 'you're wrong' since no one knows for sure, IE no one can scientificially prove one religion over the other.

Unfortunately, many people either intertwine their identity with their religion or they are insecure in their beliefs. When you question those beliefs, they either see it as a personal attack to who they are, or they are shaken by the possibility that you may be right. Whatever the case, it is no reflection on you but a sign of their need to be right. Have sympathy for their insecurities and look the other way.

Why do you think I won't join a church? Religion can be toxic. You don't have to join any man made clubs to have a spiritual relationship with God. And some people who claim to represent Him are going to be in a lot of trouble later. It would seem they haven't even read the book from which they preach.

I don't know what religion youve been around but......
It's good for non believers to question the Christian faith, its good to want to know more about it. The more you seek the more you find. All followers of Christ would not want you to burn in hell if you question the Faith. They want you to get closer, deeper towards the Truth so you can experience God for yourself

You are mixed up. Tolerance is not part of being Christian. That's a term used by deceivers. You are making up lies when you paint with such a wide brush. Christians are to admonish and warn. They do this for your benefit. All are sinners and all fall short. Make up another question without the falsehoods.
