What do you think of the name Orleans? I like names that are different which is why I like the name Orleans, but I think that it would be weird to name a baby that since Katrina last year. What do you think?

lilmisscheerx09--you didn't really answer my question but anyway, for your children's sake, please don't name them any of those names you mentioned...please don't.

The problem is that we helped out alot with the hurricane with donations and fund raisers so it has a "special place" in our hearts I guess...I'm stuck on what to do...

I agree - I think because Katrina was so devastating, it may be a little distasteful. Also, the name will always have that connotation.

I agree with you that it is a beautiful idea for a name. I'm assuming you had it in mind for a girl. I'm not sure which way to lean with the Katrina issue, though. To name your daughter Orleans could be a beautiful way to show respect for the Katrina survivors. New Orleans was and is a fantastic place, well able to overcome this setback. There would probably be people who felt that using Orleans as a name would be irreverent somehow. Either way, I agree with you on the issue of unusual names, and place names are growing in popularity. Good luck no matter what you decide.

I like the answer above where they suggested Orleana or Orlean.. Sounds better... Also, I don't think it would be 'distasteful' at all... I have heard of a girl named Jamaica (white girl) and I thought it was cute in a different way.
By the way.. it is CHAMPAIGNE (city in IL)
If you want to name your baby this go for it! Don't let all these people tell you it wouldn't be right... I bet if you didn't even mention Katrina in your question people wouldn't have started saying that it would be sooo wrong! lol

Orleans is different, but it might be pretty weird because of the recent hurricane. It would be almost as bad as naming the baby Katrina.

Yes, it would be like calling a baby Flood or Famine, I think, a bit unfeeling, and possibly unlucky. I guess you didn't lose your family in that disaster? It's somehow OK to name hurricanes after women but not really OK to name women after destroyed cities, I reckon.

What about Elouise? Or here are some links to unusual names:

Maybe something similar, names that end in s sound more like a noun than a person. What about Orleana, or Orlean?

-New Orleans has a lot of different pronounciations in itself, from N'awlins to Or-Lee-Annes.

when picking names you have to think about what the child will think about it when they are older my children are Elliott Reshawn and Hayden Agness Grace names you dont really hear alot .... In my opinion Orleans is a lil off maybe use is as a middle name .

Don't name your baby Orleans, it's not cute, I mean I have a different name too and its Safinaz(I'm Asian), but just name her something differently like Hope or Faith, but Orleans is way too off, Good luck and please take my advice. And you are being thoughtful and caring.
