No, there is no misreading Acts 1:8, 9. :) This same Jesus will return in like manner as ye have seen Him ascend into Heaven. So yah. It's whenever He feels like it. Remember, Jesus waited 4,000 years from the creation of the Earth to when He first came. Who knows how long it will be!

And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations and China, India and Africa are billions yet to hear.
Not until all have heard... They don't have to believe and accept but they must 1st hear.
You have asked a question that touched my heart because this is what makes every effort to help but to go and take the gospel it need money and it hard to get people to give to what they can not see. I been in villages where the gospel was preached for the 1st time, I speak from experience.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the entire world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Don't know that I've misread, but I actually have a thought about the return of Jesus. Seems like he'd have shown up by now if he was coming. If he does come he will be really pissed.

According to the bible, the "end times" were supposed to occur in the same generation in which Jesus (allegedly) lived.

You would think people would eventually catch on that the bible is nonsense and there are no (valid) "prophecies" in the bible.

If humans are superior to other animals, we sure have an odd way of demonstrating that superiority.

Additional comment in response to later comments regarding the falsity of the "end time prophecies;'

"According to the Synoptic Gospels, Jesus stated that the things discussed in the discourse were nigh, even at the doors, and that this generation would not pass until the things discussed in the discourse had happened."

.. . .

"The problem is compounded by the fact that one of the earliest known Christian documents, the First Epistle to the Thessalonians, clearly states that Paul and the other Christians would see the resurrection of the dead within their own lifetimes."

Jesus prophesied the "end times" would occur immediately following his death; as did the other "prophets".

The bible is nonsense and factually inaccurate whether people like it or not.

Jesus never said "any time now". He specifically said that the world would be as it is in the days of Noah, (read Matthew 24) that there would specific signs and while most of those have come to pass...the Gospel being preached throughout and to the whole world is the indicator and for us..how can we know when that happens? How could we know at what time the very last person on the face of the planet or ever in creation is going to accept Christ? We cannot. We are told that the end of the age would be like a harvest...when the branch is full..He will come unexpectedly and take those that belong to Him while leaving the rest for destruction along with the world itself and everything that is evil.

2 Peter 3
1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Pretty amazing that 2000 years ago...Peter would know that you would be typing this question, not specifically of course, but generally speaking, in Yahoo Q&A..Perhaps it is you who misread. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

Yes. I don't think he's coming back.
I think the Messiah is someone else entirely anyway.
The checklist in the TaNaKh is not satisfied when held next to Jesus' list of accomplishments, anyway.
When the real Messiah comes, everyone on the planet is supposed to know instantly, no missionaries needed.
And anyway, he's not coming to save us from our sins, God does that all by himself because he has all the power and authority to do that and always has and always will.
The real Messiah is just coming to save the righteous from the Army of Evil and will defeat them with a single glance.
Then the Messianic age will begin and 100% Peace will reign. The lamb will lie down with the lion, etc.

Jesus came already in the Glory of the Father. His name is Baha'u'llah, which is Arabic for "The Glory of God." This was the beginning of the Baha'i Era, which started in May 1844, Iran. Sounds ridiculous because in church we're always taught that Jesus hasn't yet returned and will do so in clouds. However, Baha'u'llah is the promise of all the world's religions, time prophecies have been fulfilled. Check out the links if you don't believe me.

Jesus said his return will be "like a thief in the night" which means that 1) He will come stealthily, and 2) we won't be aware of it. We're also told to be on the watch for His coming. Well, if the 2nd coming is an observable event, why would we need to be on the watch? Because His coming is UNRECOGNIZED by the masses, just as the coming of the Messiah that the Jews prayed for was unrecognized by their masses. I mean Jesus, of course. Check this out:

(All **UPPER CASE** emphasis with or without asterisks is mine, but I haven't changed the wording or punctuation.)

Luke 17:20,21 (New American Standard Bible)

20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, "**THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NOT COMING WITH SIGNS TO BE OBSERVED**;

21 nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God **IS IN YOUR MIDST**."

1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 (New American Standard Bible)

2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come **JUST LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT**.

3 While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them SUDDENLY LIKE LABOR PAINS UPON A WOMAN WITH CHILD, and they will not escape.

4 But you, brethren, are NOT IN DARKNESS, that the day would overtake you LIKE A THIEF;

5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day We are not of night nor of darkness;

6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be ALERT AND SOBER**.

Jesus, Christianity?

Use your brain for just a few seconds.

If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.

Do Gods die? Do they?

If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides a few hours of superhuman suffering was sacrificed?

What's the BIG deal?

David Blaine can do that on TV.

If you accept the Jesus story, would you also accept this one?

I gave all my money to Charity last Friday.

On Sunday, all the money was returned to me.

I sacrificed for charity. True or False?

I think it was necessary for all people in their time to think that the end was near, or people would pay off entirely any form of repentance or desire to do what is right. It was said to create an urgency to act NOW and not later. In the time of Noah, he had warned the people for 120 years that God was going to destroy the people by flood. As it began to rain, all the people were doing nothing but wickedness, not caring about anything. the reason, Hey Noah, you have been saying this for years and nothing has happened yet. It will happen and perhaps in our near future. If the time is extended it is to give as many people who want to repent to do so. That is my viewpoint.

Some religions say "any time now" not because of any predictions or some person prophesying. They say it as a way of hope and great expectations. In my beliefs, Jesus will not come until everyone has heard the good news of Jesus Christ.
