Pink eye is a bacterial infection. It requires treatment with antibiotic eye drops to git rid of it. It is considered highly contagious. Now to prevent infection or transmission it is important to Wash your hands after using the bathroom before touching your face. It is very common in young children's day cares as they are not yet able to understand or follow proper hygiene. As they tend to touch there face and eyes without regard and chew on toys it spreads quickly.
To relieve symptoms using a warm washcloth compress helps to quickly remove dried drainage and sooth swelling and tenderness.

If you wear eye makeup you will need to throw it away because you have the germs in there. I'm not sure what to do about contacts though. It is extremely contagious too. Go to the doctor and they will give you some antibacterial drops. Wash hand well after rubbing the eyes or tears that may be shed through the burning. But don't wear anymore makeup until you get rid of it and make sure it is new makeup.

See an Ophthalmologist. These home remedies may make the eye feel better but won't get rid of the cause of the infection which is either bacterial or viral. See a physician.

pink eye is very contagious. the only way to get "rid" of it is to see a doctor and get a prescription of antibiotic eye solution to put in the eye. It does help to gently wipe the area with a warm wash cloth when you wake of a morning to get rid of the goop and crust.

Get to a doctor, quick, and get the antibiotic drops. You do not want to wait as it may progress to other eye infections that are worse to get rid of.
