We are all humans, sadly there are some that think the color of skin or racial origin make them better than others others! I agree that the illegals are creating a big problem in this country,I agree that many of them come here and drain our system and resources
I sat here several hours last night, just thinking.I tried to imagine myself as a parent in a country where there wasn't much opportunity to provide for a family.A country where a large portion of the population doesn't have running water. Can you even imagine what their lives must be like if they'd risk everything to cross the desert in a semi? I asked myself "what would I do" I think I would do what others have done and chance crossing the border and then try to become a citizen. From what I am told,if you live in such a country, obviously you wouldn't have the means of applying for citizenship before crossing the border. And being that you have little or no funds the US probably wouldn't approve your paper work anyways.Would any of you stay there and listen to your children cry because they are hungry or thirsty?Or would you cross the border? Not all illegals come here with criminal intent.Although just being here is illegal,I think you might have a different view if it were you and your family!
And where does the blame truly belong? Illegal immigrants have been here for as long as I can remember. We didn't just wake up a few weeks ago and they were here! Our government turned their watchful eye the other way and let it happen. Have you ever wondered why? What were they getting in return? Who was benefiting from looking the other way.Have you wondered why after all the decades ,why our government suddenly wants to put an end to them crossing our borders? Look at the news, everytime our government or someone connected to the gov.makes a huge blunder,an event has been created to take the attention away from the blunder! When the thing with Clinton and Monica first hit the news, the next night we heard about two guys carrying viles filled with Anthrax.I told my daughter not to be scared because it was only a deversion and that it would be reported later that they had made a mistake, sure enough that's exactly what happened! So look to the news .An election is coming up,and then there's that report that our Marines have deliberately killed innocent women and children in Iraq.Have you wondered why the trial for saddam is taking such a long time to conduct? Is that really saddam or a look alike? Do any of us really have any answers? All I can say is that as a result of recent headlines,I see this country dividing and it is scary!

Because their not coming in droves, their not standing on street corners looking for work, no body is smuggling them in, theirs not 12 million illegal Canadians living in the U.S. their not illiterate, or living off our welfare system, they speak English, and they probably have some sort of skill. Canadians are no better then any one else. I am very worried about the Canadian border, I wish we had a big fence with Canada also, but that border is much bigger than the one with Mexico, it spans across all of our northern border, it's just too big. And not all Canadians are white.

It's because we don't have truckloads of Canadians practically killing themselves to get into the US. We don't find semi loads of dead Canadians who ran themselves out of oxygen to get in. For every illegal Canadian you find there is likely a thousand or more illegal Mexicans. It's not a white or hispanic thing either. It's just the simple fact that our southern border is abused daily and we have to have extra security there. As far as I'm concerned illegal is ILLEGAL and deportation sits fine with me. Becoming a legal citizen sits fine with me too. Especially if it means learning English! It's not racial, it's numbers, plain and simple.

Most canadians are fairly law-abiding types, I think, and people don't look at them as being much a threat as people from somewhere else. Plus, they speak english. We're neighbors, and stuff. Mexico, on the other hand...well, Mexico's Mexico, chop shops, drugs, poverty, what's not to love, really? LOL

Sparki - thank you for a well thought out and sincere post. I enjoyed reading your thoughts. You brought up many things that I know I have thought about myself over the last weeks. This issue is not just black and white - there is a lot of gray here, too. Myself, I get very vehement at times in this forum because I don't agree with illegal immigration and I get caught up in the emotions that are brought up. It is easy to forget that there are so many facets to this problem - political, economical, personal, etc. I am not and have never claimed to be an authority on the problem. There are so many things to consider. I do feel for many of the illegal immigrants as I know that many of them are so poor that we would do the same if we were in their shoes. I know that as a mother, I would do whatever I had to do to support my children and ensure that they didn't go hungry, even steal, if it came to that, or go to where I could work and send money to feed and care for them. However, I also feel that there are a lot of illegal immigrants who are not so poor, but who are just going to the USA to work, even though they do have opportunities at home, albeit maybe not as lucrative as what they can have in the USA, or to take advantage of the generous social benefits in the USA and to do further criminal acts after crossing the border, such as stealing or using fake ID/SSNs, and driving without insurance/licenses, joining gangs and being part of the illicit drug trade, etc. How do we discern which are which? We can't! We need to have a handle on the immigration and have a say in who comes in and who doesn't. If that means that there are special criteria granted for the poor of Mexico, maybe there are some changes that have to be made for them, but we have to have ways of screening and checking them out. But, the ones who are not in that category of the neediest would lie and do things to deceive to be able to be classed as among the neediest - how do we screen them? Anyways, your posting is very valuable and worth reading and thinking about. Thank you, again.
As to the question here - are you sure you met an illegal Canadian? Really? Canada and the USA are so similar in economy that there is not the incentive for Canadians to come to the USA illegally, as there is for Mexicans and Central Americans. As I have said in this forum in the past, the only reasons I can see for a Canadian to come to USA illegally is if they are in a romantic relationship with a US citizen and perhaps have a criminal record such as DUI or even worse, and so they know they would have a very difficult and long road to ever, if ever, being able to go to the USA legally, or if they are just trying to escape criminal justice in Canada. However, remember, Canada also has the same types of Americans crossing over the border illegally into Canada, so it is probably about 1:1 for ratio there. Not to mention, that Canada also gets the USA military deserters, so it is maybe more of a ratio of 1:1.1 or so, eh?
And, for the person who posted that all of the 9/11 terrorists came from Canada - you are wrong there! Don't say such things if you don't know the facts! Most of the 9/11 terrorists had come to the USA legally and even were educated in the USA - I read in the news that they even took aviator lessons in the USA! Also, realize that if terrorists are crossing the border from Canada into the USA, it is the USA customs who are letting them in, unless they are crossing illegally at unmanned areas of the border. Again, that would not be a failing on the Canadian side, that is on the USA side, which the USA is responsible for, but I don't believe this is the way they are getting in. I believe the majority of them are crossing over at manned customs crossings and the USA is letting them in.
I will admit that I feel that Canada is far too liberal in allowing immigrants into Canada without screening them enough, particularly from the Middle East and Asia. I am hoping that with the recent (this past week) arrest of 17 terrorists that were on the verge of disasterous acts, maybe Canada will tighten up their immigration laws. I hope the USA will keep the pressure on the Canadian government to do so.
Anyways, the last part of your post is that "Terrorists could get a Canadian Visa (which is easier to get) and get through the states (I think you meant, "into the States.") through Canada." Please read what you wrote - if the terrorists are able to get into the USA from Canada, it is your USA border that is letting them in!
'nough said here, I think.

I think it is basically a numbers thing. The number of illegal immigrants coming though canada is not at all comparable to the numbr coming through mexico.
