keep heat out of your hair, get your ends trimmed, get it treated/done everyweek, some people use mayonaise in their hair to make it long and healthy. also use good shampoo and conditioner(herbal essence, dove, etc.) or when your get your hair done, ask your hairdresser for some ideas or suggestions for growing healthy, long hair ...........and you can go to Sally Beauty Supply and ask them what to use!!:)
Good Luck:) p.s. I'm african-american too

Try to keep as much heat as possible out of it. Also, make sure you keep your ends trimmed. That doesn't necessarily promote growth, but you will keep the ends nice. I have used a product called Mega-Gro by B&B. That has helped my hair maintain it's shine and it's healthy for the hair. It also stimulates growth.
