Is there anything? I know there are different types of cards offered, and individual banks set rates, but is there any real difference?

Visa is usually accepted in a lot more places, BUT, usually if they take visa, they will take mastercard.

not really, just the name of the company that owns that partular card, the visa or mastercard company offers their cards to most banks foa percentage of the interest earned, and the banks raise the interest so they can make money also; That's why you see such high interest rates on bank credit cards. You can get a credit card with a much lower interest rate from a bank or credit union that issues their own credit cards

For the most part, no. There are a few things that you can do with one and not the other. For example, some utilities have begun accepting payments with VISA, but not MasterCard. And, when world cup tickets were on sale, you could only buy them with a MasterCard. But almost all of places that accept VISA also accept MasterCard and vice versa.

There is nothing unique or remarkable about these credit cards. They're both the same just have different names attached to them. One is not better than the other and are all goverened by a banking institution of some kind.

Some have better interest rates than others.
