Here's the jazz.... I have a 500MB collection of MP3 files that I recovered (since my laptop broke down) on the old computer - the old PC has no burner, and cannot read flash/pen drives. My only option was to send it online, but it takes 30-50hrs on a 128K DSL connection. And possibly when install XP all files will be removed. What should I do?
------ PLUS! It is tru that if i leave the files in the Recycle Bin, then they will still be there when I load XP, thus I can get them back without any trouble? Any help is well needed, cause i need to get XP on so i can get my flash drives read and working again. Thanks.

Ok, people, please remember... my old computer cannot recognize flash / jump drives. In fact, it cannot recognise any USB drive, except a printer and a webcam. Flash drives freezes the system and causes severe error screens to show. Unless you know of a way I can fix it - except downloading the driver, because I dod and not a help - anything else?

Thats the sad part now... I am only given THE option of overwriting... like write the files over the 98SE.

On the old system, "Upgrade feature" isn't granted... its just "New Installation".

fastfinge, thats a good idea. And the idea is "fast" - I like that. But - we talking being Jamaica, where the dollar is 1US = 65JA... you can imagine how things are really expensive. We talking $4000-$5000 operation here...

If you upgrade with files in the recycling bin then they will be over written.

Take them out of the trash and move them to the root (C:/ ) directory. Install XP over top of 98SE. But make sure you DON'T choose the option to format your C: Drive and they will still be there.

Only problem I see is if your old computer had 98 on it then it's prolly too old to run XP. Look for something a lil newer.

Hi!

Was that a pun on the old jaz/zip drives? Remember those? I hope you don't! They were awful, terrible drives.

Now, what you need to do is:
1. find yourself a laptop, or borrow a friends laptop or computer with xp on it.
2. Plug both the windows 98 and xp computers into your router.
3. Set up Home Networking on your 98 pc, and share a folder on your xp pc. Make sure the share name has no spaces, or the 98 machine might not be able to access it.
4. The copy of your mp3 files should go really quick over a local network!
5. Install xp on your 98 pc, and overwrite the files.
6. Now, get your files back off of the pc you borrowed.

I know this is a huge pain, but unfortunately it's the only way you can keep your files. Sorry.

Unfortunately there is not any method to improve from XP to Win7 with out loosing your records and systems. You can store Pics, Documents and different records to an External Hard Drive after which Install Win7 however you will not be ready to avoid wasting systems or switch them to the Installed variation of Win7 except you could have the set up Disk. Wish I had bigger information for you.

Go on E-Bay and find a cheap 250 MB Zip Drive with a couple of disks.
