This is a sign that she is being abused by someone and is acting out her feelings on the animals. She is not too young for a psychiatric evaluation. She is not too young to have animals ....a four year old normally doesn't try to do harm but does accidently get rough..
Your neice is intentionally being sadistic to the animals. This is very serious.

I'm no expert, but from what I've heard, cruelty to animals is one of the first signs of serious problems. It's one thing if a child is playing and ends up being a little too rough, I've seen that with small kids who don't know better. But actually trying to hurt them? I would recommend getting your niece some help, and take the animals away before she hurts them.

You are right.....she is too young & immature to have a pet. However, I wonder if there is more psychosis than her age. Is she predisposed to violence in her home? What are her normal activities (TV shows, computer games)? Does she interact well w/other children her age? If I were you, either I would remove the pets & ask that she get professional help or notify your local Animal Control to get those poor defenselss animals out of harms way.

Wow. Talk about animal cruelty which can land your sister and her daughter in trouble. You should tell her mom straight out what she is doing. And if she doesn't do anything, then she's crazy. Anyways. Maybe your niece has a psychological problem? Because it is not cool to hurt animals, and even if you don't like them, it's no reason to hurt them the way your niece is.

I used to do the same because I was jealous of the attention everybody payed to them and how irresistibly adorable they were. I was threatened by anything that would take attention away from me. To get attention I would be mean to my pet, then I would get mad when other people protected them, like their well-being was more important then my happiness and well-being. That child shouldn't have a pet to give attention to, they are craving the attention that they feel the pet is taking away from them. P.S. I turned out fine.

She needs to be evaluated by a child psychologist. Harming animals on purpose has serious ramifications, none of which are good and most of which lead to real trouble as the person reaches their teens and adulthood.

Sorry to say, but yes your niece needs help. This is harsh and extreme, but true...do the research. Adult serial killers and psychopaths have childhood histories of pet abuse.

Encourage her parents to seek some help for the child. Point out that this behavior is NOT healthy, and could lead to greater incidents of abuse. Does this child live in a home where abuse exists?

Please see that she gets quality help. Good for you for pointing this out. What would happen if she became very violent in her teen years and adulthood, and ended up in prison because no one spoke up?

Good luck to you.

She is not ready for appreciting the animals yet.
You better kep them away for the time being. and start talking
to your kid. like telling her how nice and beautifull the animals are
take her to the zoo. ,read her stories of little girls and their pets,
get her to appreciate the nature . you will hopefully find her developing natural love for animals . thn you may wait untill she asks you for a pet. and begs you for them . then sh will apprreciate the animals she may have. dont worry she wll be ok.

This type of behavior is learned. Maybe she is seeing this somewhere, maybe on t.v. It' d be a good idea to try to find the source. Try to help her channel her hostile energy into something else, maybe a game or some kind or craft.

she has an anger problem!
at worst she may be suffering from an illness inwhich she finds it hard 2channel her anger.
but realistcly, kids are inquisitive and its true, she is too young to appreicate that her pets are not toys and in effect, she treats them like rag dolls...
the fundamental solution is discipline, she needs to be told that doin what she does is wrong!
only then will she truly appreciate animal life!
