As a straight person, could you just decide to become attracted to, fall in love with, or have relations with a member of the same sex?

Also, humans and animal species alike experience homosexuality...did animals choose to be gay as well???

Because it's never been proven to be genetic. Simply put, we'll probably never know the truth.

As a Christian, I think it's possible for a homosexual to be "born that way". We're all born sinners, homosexuality may just be the sin that a gay person has to deal with.

To answer other questions, I'm straight and I find it entirely plausable to think that I could have become attracted to a man, fall in love with him and have relations with him. If I was raised in an environment that told me that those "feelings" were completely valid to be "felt" for a man or a woman. Why would that not be possible?

I don't think animals choose their sexuality. Animals mainly operate on instinct alone, without much rational thought. Humans, most anyway, are not purely instinctual. To compare the sexual habits of the two would prove nothing.

I have answered this question time and time again the same way.
Homosexuality is MOSTLY a choice and you are NOT born with it. I do say mostly because there are very few instances where nature creates a person born with BOTH sexual organs. Hermaphrodites are the proper name for it, and those are the only ones with real excuses.

Now, as the Nurse above me put it, usually when someone becomes a homosexual it is because of a NURTURING issue, not nature. It has almost always been proven that something within your child raising has caused you to look towards the same sex as attractive or look away from the other sex because of something that they had done.
Social pressures are also a major factor. If someone who was a little weaker minded was to live in a gay community, then there is a good chance that he or she would accept that lifestyle as normal and not have a problem with it.
For the people who think that you will not go to hell for being gay, here is my response. Yes, you can be forgiven for your sins, INCLUDING homosexuality. However, to be forgiven, the commandment is to TURN from your sin and repent in it. If you repent of your sin and truly love the Lord Jesus Christ and believe that he is your savior, then you will go into heaven with him. If you deny the fact that you are told not to and continue to do such, you are condemned to hell. The bible is very clear about it and even gives us examples of two cities that where destroyed over it. Even Lott's wife did not listen to the lord and became a pillar of salt.

I liked this link someone towards the begining gave. I have talked with and have dealt with people who have decided to go straight!

Animals? You want to mimic animals? I've seen dogs eat their own feces and cats.., unless you really want to go there, an animal is not a valid argument.

Humans are the superior species with intellect and power of choice where as an animal has an instinct to reproduce and is not too particular what it attaches itself to, even a human leg.., so get real.

A man or woman does not need sex to survive. Sex is a choice. Thats simple and to the point. Nature has us male and female - just the way God intended.

Homosexuality could be likened to someone taking a regular stock car and trying to drive it across the ocean. The car is not designed to drive through water that deep. Its using the car against its intended purpose. LIKEWISE the human body is not made for male to male or female to female.

HOWEVER - what the sinner does is sin and homosexuality is a sin just like any heterosexual sin (adultery and so on). I think many of these people picking on Homosexuality have overlooked the Heterosexual sins as if thats okay - which the Bible says it is not.

Non the less, sinners sin, and we can not force people to stop sinning. The only say a Christian has is IN the Church - or when it comes to the secularists FORCE feeding the gay agenda on our children without even so much as a warning shot.

If you're going to be homosexual - I'm not going to organize a lynching mob and wait on your door stepand I wont harass you on the street or bust down the gay bar doors either ( i promise ). But if someone stands in the Church and starts preaching the gay agenda - He must be handed his walking papers because it does not have any place in God's house of worship. Or if they teach my Grandson homosexuality is okay and normal in school with MY TAX DOLLARS - I will be there in the court room to protect my Grandson and his parent's rights.

People think this because some people are not born this way. However, I believe some people aren't, as well. I think it goes both ways.
I do believe, though, that it's a medical condition, such as diabetes (which also runs in animals). It's not physical, though, but mental, unlike diabetes.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this:
Yes, it runs in animals, so possibly, some people are born with this disorder.
Yes, I believe some people choose it. This could be for a number of reasons, such as ab.use, mentally and physically, no role as a child, tramatic experience as a child....
And a number of other reasons.
There's organizations that people join and these organizations are able to change most people back to a straight lifestyle. A lot of people who come out of them, come out and marry and have children.
Now, my Faith, of course, plays a large role in my view on this issue.
The Bible says it's wrong.
Also, scientifically, anything that stops the reproduction of a species is a bad mutation. Thus, this is a bad mutation because it stops the reproduction procress. Scientifically, it should be looked at as a disorder and should be treated as so, whether by medication or whatever.

No. You are born Gay or born with whatever feelings that you have that attract you to either women or men. You cant help what you find attractive. I am a straight woman but could not ...ever....just decide one day that I am going to like other women and pursue them to have a relationship, sexual relationship or fall in love. No way, I don't see how anyone could just decide that after being a certain way your whole life..whether it's gay or straight.

I don't think that Animals have the Cognitive brain power to reason why they are having sex with another animal of the same sex. However ...if they do for some reason...then I guess you could say they are " Gay " animals. ......???

I can say I never made a choice other than to accept it and quit mentally killing myself over it. It was either accept it or go mad trying to deny it. I never decided to like guys, though.

And, no, the Bible doesn't "speak against it big time". At best there are 6 verses you could use against it. All but one or two of those are quite hazy anyway once you start looking at context and not just a single verse, doubly so because most of them are in the Old Testament. You should examine all the many ways the Bible speaks against things straight couples should/shouldn't do. There are many many many more instances of such a thing. I imagine if homosexuality was the big issue Christians today make it out to be, there'd be a bit more mentioned in a much clearer way.

I definitely believe that you're born gay/hetero. It's not a choice, it's something that's in you. I don't know if education is a factor, but homosexuality is not something you choose.

I'm not sure about the "bi" thing, though. i'm sure some people are born bi, but I think some people are sexually bi by choice. But maybe I'm wrong as I don't know any bi. The only thing I know is that I wouldn't mind trying a girl, but I really don't think I would ever fall in love with one. So that's why I say that some people are just sexually curious. If you fall in love, then it's not a choice.

PS: I can't believe people compare homosexuality to murder or to a disease (although I've heard the latter before)!

Gay people, as well as straight people, have no choice in who they find attractive or fall in love with. Gay people don't just decide to be that way, and neither to straight people. As for animals, I think there are a lot of them that have sex with the same sex, I know some monkeys do anyway. I don't know if we can tell if animals choose to be gay....its probably the same as in humans.

For the people who think it is a choice.... did one day you just decide to be straight? If being gay is a choice, them being straight must be too, right?

Some claim it is a choice because to not do so would go against what they have been taught and some are not willing to separate an issue that may be social or biological from being a religious issue.

I don't believe it is a choice. Given the type of world we live in why would one choose to be continually harassed by a large segment of the population. None of my gay or lesbian friends have ever believed they have had a choice in their sexuality.

For some, it may be a choice but all the research is not in yet on whether it is genetically based so truthfully, I cannot intelligently answer this question on the basis of logic alone. From a religious viewpoint, it is inherently wrong to practice homosexuality. Now that is not saying "to be" homosexual, just practicing it. Homosexuals are expected to live a life of celebacy rather then engage in immorality.
