I had a couple of scrapes on my arms and they broke open when I took a bath. Now they are full of pus and red around them. Where does pus come from? How come I got it? And how do I get rid of it other than antibiotics?

The infection is caused by bacteria when you initially scraped your arm. The heat from your bath probably caused them to multiply. Clean the scrapes with hydrogen peroxide and apply an anti-biotic ointment(like neosporin) and cover the scrapes with a band-aid or gauze. Clean the scrapes a couplet times of day and keep them covered to prevent more infection.

Pus is formed by a large number of white blood cells collecting in a similar area to fight off a bacterial infection. You really should see a doctor for an antibiotic. It could develop into cellulitis. I have cellulitis and it is no JOKE. Please see a doctor.

There are many forms of bacteria and you may have a skin-eating bacterial infection , or staph . Seek medical attention at once anytime you have an infection .Some anti-biotics do not kill all forms of infection these days .

Sounds like Staph to me. Anitibiotics are the ONLY way to get rid of infection. See a doctor, or you could end up with septic shock (blood poisoning) which can kill you.

A triple antibiotic ointment should work.Wal-Mart has their brand called Equate that works just as well as Neosporin or Bactricin. And it costs less.

Do what momma2more said and definately see a doctor if the infection isn't healing or gets worse.

Keep Neosporin and a bandage on it, changing it every day. Keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better, then call the doctor.
