I have three chihuahuas and my mother has 12. We use clicker training, you can get the program on the web or there may be a class in your area. I have trained all of my dogs with this method and they are well behaved and I swear they do not bark unless someone is trying to break in the house. Definitely worth a try but start now to have the best results.

One person on this thread said that Chihuahuas are just yappy. This is not true but you have to take the time. You will be pleased!

Training your dog will be a huge part of your interaction with him for the first few months. Learn here https://tr.im/dupnI
This includes housetraining, leash training, obedience training, socialization, and problem solving. In addition to providing your dog with needed skills, this time will also be a great opportunity for you to bond with him. Take the time to really get to know your pet while training him and a loving relationship will easily develop.

Fill a spray bottle with cold water and set it on stream. During the next barking fit douse him. It will be a distraction and slightly unpleasant. If you spray him every time he barks he will get the idea that barking is all wet.

Boredom! Smaller canines have a tendency to be yappers, and that i think of she is doing this for interest. Everytime she barks she gets interest! perhaps take her for greater longer walks, training classes, play video games and purchase her toys which will save her occupied. Bones, mini kongs etc. could be super boredom busters for canines. desire that those innovations do the trick.
