I was on a jury once, and this young, stupid, inbred guy was up on drug charges, and I know none of us were his peers!

Ha ha ha, great question! The jury system does need to undergo revision, IMO. These people who regard it as their civil duty and think that it would be such an honor and so much fun, blah blah blah, should be the ones picked for jury duty. Like Mentalcasemaggot indicated, a lot of people would either pass out from the boredom or choose the wrong verdict.

Or old enough to be looking for an interesting way to spend their time.
I am rarely called to jury duty, and have never made it into the interview. I would proudly participate in jury duty, because I would want someone like me involved in my jury. Think twice before you try to flake out on it. One day it could be you!

It's a scary thought. I know when I had jury duty, I was the 12th jurer picked, and the lawers there dismissed me. I think I was 19 and a stoner...the case was about some work fraud...what the hell would I know about that!!!! I think I would have passed out....so I am happy they released me, but I totally agree with you!!! Geez, someone might be in jail right now if I had to be on stand! Oh man...thanks for asking this question.

Jury duty has nothing to do with intellect. Every person no matter how smart or dumb they are can be called in for jury duty. Your statement is not right.

Lol, that's funny! Well, either that, or they just take their duty very seriously. I would refuse on the grounds that being separated from my husband (especially if the trial is long) would cause me "severe emotional distress", and I have a medical condition that makes me prone to anxiety attacks. Or I would just say: "I think he/she is guilty, guilty, guilty!" They can hardly have someone with their mind made up on the jury, now can they? ;O)

You're supposed to put your faith in a jury of 12 of your piers, but these people don't know you how can they be your piers? Some people want to be there.though most people go to be able to hang somebody. That's why most people just cop a plea and avoid the stupid decisions of the idiots that the government pays to be there. You're better off copping a plea if you're guilty,If you're not,Then God help you!Good Luck!

I waive my right to a jury trial!!!!!!!
Wait, that will put my fate in the hands of a lawyer not smart enough to make enough money in his or her own practice.
I'M SCREWED!

I'd rather put my fate in the hands of 12 average people, than the paid liars...I mean lawyers, who would "swing a deal" for you.
Personally, I just wouldn't get caught in the 1st place.

I wasn't very smart twice, but found it a worthwhile experience both times actually. Most of the jurors took it seriously and listened intently. Scary thought the way you put it though Laura...you might be right.
