I am guessing that your immediate family is probably saying this in their hopes to help you. To many people, the thought of seeing blood is unthinckable and they have a hard time understaing those of us who do not feel the same way.
1-Therefore, I suggest you go to your local hospital and ask for a volunteer application. If you are under the age of 18 ask for a JR application, if not, ask for the ordinary one. Once you become a volunteer, ask to work in a department that interests you. The baby department or the Emergency room. Usually, the nurses will be very kind and let you see what they do and answer questions that you might have.
2-Keep a journal on how you feel. Did you like it? Do you really want to become a nurse?
3-If becoming a volunteer isn't possible, perhaps you can access internet sites and books that will educate you on what nurses do. Consider the fact that there are many many types of nurses. CNA's, LVN's, RN's, FRN's, surgical nurses, coronary nurses, geriatrics and the list goes on.
4-This world is in the need of nurses and if you hope to become one, I greatly encourage you to do so.
5- I am sure that when your family finds themselves in the urgent need of care, and you show up to save their lives as is often the case in a nurse's family, they will thank you, and feel gratful that you did not heed to their advice of refraining your goal of becoming a nurse.
My parents too used to tell me that nursing was probably not the best position out there for me, but I have pursued my dream and am only a few years away froma ccomplishing what Ive wanted always.
Im sure you can do this too. Best wishes. And save some lives.

I have been a nurse for 16 years and I love it. I am a pediatric nurse which means I care for children. I take care of kids from 2 days old to 18 years. It the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Nursing has so many areas to go into. ICU, ER, Med-Surg, Labor and Delivery, Post-Partum and the list goes on and on. I think you should go on. If I would have listened to my grandmother who said " Why would you want to empty bed pans all day?" I would never have the great career that I do. Believe me we use our brains and the doctors look to us to be their eyes and ears when they are not there. They learn to respect you and and you make a difference in people's lives every day. Good luck.

There are many branches of Nursing, so, if you find out what tasks you like to do you can probably match them with a nursing specialty. Do What You Are by Barbara and Paul Tieger is a good book to help you zero in on the types of tasks and jobs that best fit your true personality. Your public library probably has it. Good luck, because Nursing pays well and there are many, many jobs in it available all over the world.

Take one or two classes that will give you a taste of nursing. Or you can also volunteer at a local clinic and speak with the nurses, see what they do, hear their opinions. Your family may have their valid reasons why they feel you won't like it, but you'll never know until you try yourself. If they are right, they're right. If they're wrong, they're wrong.

Hell no. If ur heart tells u that u like to help ppl feel better and live well...then u should pursue it...but u should know that it isnt a cake walk. It requires some serious determination. But rewards greatly in the end...plus it pays a lot too.

NO! If you like medicine, if you are caring, if you have manual dexterity and are not scared of blood- GO FOR IT! Everything else will come to you.
P.S. My family was against me becoming a nurse, but despite everything, I'm about to take my NCLEX exam now. Be strong. I sincerely wish you good luck.

Don't know, how smart are you??????????? How determined are you???? people with little of either don't do well at anything. You don't have to be a genius to do well, but if you have no determination you will get nowhere. Bright people can be bumbs, and below average people can do well -- it takes determination. So, you get your question answered with a question: How determined are you to succeed?

Nah. You shouldn't really. Becoming a nurse isn't all that bad.
Don't listen to your family about everything. I don't.
