You asked, so I'm going to answer. There is proof that the Bible exists. You can hold it in your hand. Whether or not the words inside come directly from God is the question. That has been debated up one side and down the other. My advice is to allow your friend to have his own opinions if you want to keep him as a friend. Agree to disagree about the subject of religion. You'll keep more friends this way.

Rather, don't try to prove that the bible is real to him. But through example, live your life in a manner that proves the worthiness of the Bible and show him this. Walk the talk and show him that for you, The Bible is enough proof to live your life on. Don't shove bible passages down his throat. Simply, and calmly explain to him that the Bible is what guides your life, and that there is no proof that will be blatenly obvious that will make him convert. Be humble and say that this what you believe and how you choose to live your life. Then, live like a christian in front of him. And God will do the rest.

He must be a bit smarter than you think.
Don't try to convince him, he is on his own path and the fact that he doesn't believe in the bible is a good thing. That shows freedom of thought and that's a great thing.
It isn't made up, it is mostly condensed so much as to be unintelligible. Then the rest is just not applicable to anything anymore. A bunch of history that doesn't make any sense anymore. It is really much more interesting and insightful to study ancient history and mythology and find out what really happened way back then.

what do you mean by "real"?
=================
there are proofs that the author did not write the books. e.g.
MOSES WRITES HIS OWN OBITUARY?
"So Moses . . . DIED . . . And he (God Almighty) BURIED HIM (Moses) ... he was 120 years old when he DIED ... And there arose not a prophet SINCE in Israel like unto Moses …" (Deut. 34:5-10).
Could Moses had been a contributor to his own obituary before his demise? For sure, Moses pbuh is not the author of this verse.
Similarly, Joshua too speaks in detail about his own death in Joshua 24:29-33.
"And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, DIED, … And they BURIED HIM … And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord, that he had done for Israel ….(Joshua 24:29-33)"

If the teachings of the Bible are true, then you can prove it by explaining their morality and how following its teachings is in the long-term best interest of everyone. You do not need to resort to claiming it is simply the "word of God" and must be followed without question.
If the Bible claims questioning its teachings is wrong, then the teachings of the Bible ARE wrong.

If he does not want to believe that is his choice, you cannot make a believer out of someone that is set on being a non-believer, you have tried and that is the best that you can do, if you keep forcing it in every conversations you have, you will lose your friend.

Don't talk, darlin', show him. I became a Christian and my husband wasn't. I started doing what I though Jesus would do. We talked a lot about the Bible and He would not accept it. Finally after a while, he wanted what I had because he liked the changes in me.
Give it a shot. What do you stand to loose?

God sent us His Helper, the Holy Spirit to "Help" us,
What you are asking for.
God can change mens hearts, and we can't.
Ask god for what to say or not to say and then just keep praying for your friend, and stand on God's word!
1 Corinthians 2. 1-5
When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,
So that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.
