My friend has the pro version of xp. He had a key gen and said that he was always able to run win update. He cant anymore. What can he do?

You can try to disable javascript in your browser by going to Tools->Manage Add-ons... and then disable whatever has the word "java" in it and whatever else is associated with Sun Microsystems.

By doing this you can bypass the genuine advantage check and hopefully continue onto Windows Update.

I'm not sure if this will entirely work now since Microsoft has issued a genuine advantage patch that will still check to see if your copy of Windows is genuine - but it's still worth a try :)

If your using a "key gen" it is illegal. By the way the "key gen is not real either if the key you have is (FCKGW),

There are cracks to run the update, but you should buy your self a copy of XP.. or if you can purchase a real key there is a way to edit your system and change the key.. call microsoft .. for this .

A long time ago, when service pack 2 came out, MS banned the key you are using. (FCKGW)

You must purchase a legal copy of the software. What you are doing is illegal.
