yes, if you are paying him, and he is unliscensed as an electrician, he needs to have a liscensed electrician sign off on all of his wiring and connections before they are covered by drywall or appliances.personally, i think, if he is performing electrical work, without a liscense, you should be very wary of all of his practices, and question him on them. if he gets uncomfortable, consult a lawer before confrunting him, or allowing him to perform work

I've been a GC for many years, but shy away from code work if I can sub another contractor. If the work you need isn't strictly code work, or if the contractor doing the entire job has multiple experience and licensing then it's still your choice to allow it or not.

If all he is doing is hooking up an appliance then still ask his qualification.

If he needs to know breaker limits on that line, amps at the breaker already being drawn, and might have to add line, breakers, etc, then check his ability, his licensing, the premits in code, and spend the money for someone who can insure their liability.

The fact that I personally,,and many others,,,state that they can do "IT ALL" may not be the insurance you need after the fact.

My son is an electrician and he says only a licensed electrican can do electrial work; Ask to see his license; it must state Licensed to do electrial work, and also has to be licensed in the county, or city the work is being done in;
If someone does the work who is not licensed, you take a chance of a fire down the line. My son also said someone here in St. Louis, Mo built a finished basement without a permit, had someone do the electrical work, and when the man tried to sell his house, he had to tear everything out and have a licensed electircan rewire everything or he could not sell the house.

he should have a electrical license, I'd check with your insurance policy to make sure, if the house burns down, they might ask for proof it was done by an electrician

NO! ask to see the permit he paid for. it should have been posted already. if he wires ur house and is not lic. then u have no recourse if the house burns down.

now he could be lic. to do electric. just ask him! and then call ur local building inspector where he got his permit and ask them. its ur house.

and if he didnt get a permit then he is breaking the law and DO NOT PAY HIM. that implies that u accept what he has done.

lic. gen. contractor

He may be a licensed electrician. That's possible, so ask him and ask to SEE the license. Tell him you have to have a copy for your files. (whether or not you do, it will get him to show it to you).

No, not usually, but laws change from place to place. The main thing is that you will need to have the work inspected and it will have to pass.

I don't think so unless he is an electrician and has a license for that also.
