My friend was flying from Manchester to Boston to San Fransisco, but the person she was to meet in SF (an @$$) ditched her. Her flight leaves tomorrow! So instead of not going entirely (because the two were going to travel back to Boston together after a week in SF), she wants to go but get off in Boston (because we work at summer camp together on Cape Cod). Will this be an issue? How can she make sure her luggage gets to Boston? Are there any complications of which she should be aware?

She will need to call the airline or website that she used to book the trip and change the reservation. If she does not and leaves it as it is, then any unflown segment could cancel the entire remaining reservation. It will show her in the system as a no show. First she needs to go back and read the fare rules. If there is something in there that states she must fly as booked, then she has no other choice. If in the middle of the trip she does not fly a segment, her reservation is subject to cancellation and has the possiblity of not being able to be retrieved from the system and reinstated.

If the reservation is left alone before she leaves, then she needs to advise the ticket agent to "short check" her luggage just to Boston. It is best to go ahead and cancel any portion that she will not be using and potentially receive any applicable refund if she is entitled to one.

It is best to go ahead and do this now, all reservations lines should be 24 hrs since she is flying International. Go ahead and take care of this right now.
