I mean, me and my fiance are solely paying for it. How can it be as inexpensive as possible, only married couples who have planned their own weddings, respond please.

I plan on having a church wedding with 100 guests. however my wedding party will pay for their own attire. I just feel overwhelmed with where to begin. People have told me to set a budget; however, how can I if I have never had a wedding to know how much to expect things to cost.

There are several books out there that were a huge help to me. Check out the Knot wedding books, they have a time line in the back of the book to help you keep with your schedule.
The first thing I would do is buy a note pad and write down all of your ideas (ie. color scheme, roses or lilies, ceremony in afternoon or evening...) and keep it with you at all times, that way, anytime you think of something you can jot it down. I also cut out pictures from magazines so i had a reference. The next thing I did was figure out how I could do these things myself.
*I saved a ton of money by purchasing fake flowers (they look real (if you don't buy the really cheap ones), and they last forever) and doing the boquets myself. (**If you have a Michaels Arts and Crafts where you live, they are great)
*There is software out there where you can do your invitations your self.
*RSVPs: have people to call you to RSVP instead of paying extra for postage.
*Rule of thumb: only expect half of the people you invite to show, so if you are inviting 100 people only purchase food for 50 (60 or 70 to be safe)
*David's Bridal has great sales. I bought my $550 gown for $350, and it was beautiful.
*Instead of paying a caterer, maybe have a friend or two do it for you (that could be a wedding gift) Just purchase the food at a wholesale grocery store. If you have a wedding in the mid afternoon, then you can serve finger foods as opposed to a dinner if you choose an evening wedding.
*And I purchased my wedding cake at Publix (local grocery store) and it was a great deal.
*Instead of paying a DJ, just burn your own Cd's and play them through a stereo. One of your bridesmaides can be in charge of switching CD's.

The most important thing to do is set a budget--people are right! But, this can be daunting if you have no idea how much things will cost. Therefore, your best bet is to invest $5 in a wedding magazine--flip through them at the store and find one that has a tear out wedding guide inside. Once you've bought it, sit down at home and call some places and ask for prices (call more than one in each category) then make up an estimated budget of what you would spend if you could do everything you wanted for your wedding--then find places where you would be willing to cut costs. Having a budget of what you can spend without putting yourself into debt and an idea of what aspects of the wedding and reception would be the most meaningful and important to you is the best place to start.
Good luck!

The best thing to do is work on 1 item at a time and price everything. Once you start to price thing you may find deals along the way. Remember to do things the way you want to not how everyone else thinks you should be doing it. Remember at most wedding people just want to have a good time and you can spend less on decotation and spend a little more on a good DJ or band that will get everyone active in the party. Don't forget this day should be all about you and your man.!!!

Get married at the court house(magistrate's office - justice of the peace) - then have a reception dinner elsewhere. I had my family/friends members to prepare their favorite food dish(for the dinner) and things went great! They also wore their nice dress clothes and that saves them money too!(I like a good wedding too but not at today's prices and catering is so overpriced! You can get fresh made up food platters(I had one bread and cheese tray,2 veggie and dip trays,2 fruit and dip trays,and1 cold meat tray) at the grocery store - I put the items on cut glass serving platters and bowls that my mom had. I also bought my wedding cake at the bakery too! You can find wedding punch recipes online(http://www.ourmarriage.com/html/punch_recipes.html.) My wedding dress was actually a look alike version of the overpriced wedding dress I couldn't afford --- It was a clearance priced Prom dress that had the pearl beads all over it like the high priced wedding dress - one big difference, I didn't spent over two thousand for it - my dress was $110.00 and it included the tulle!
Grand total for everything (also includes use of a bed and breakfast for the reception) just under $600.00 !

First brainstorm about what's most important to you and your fiance for your wedding. For example, for us, we wanted to get married outside and keep it simple and beautiful. So I'd say think about where you want to have the wedding and go from there.
Best of luck!
