Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on, when anyone touches it, he will be unclean till evening."

to those who said it was only at the time of Moses:
As regards Jesus, when the Jews felt suspicious of him that he might be an imposter with designs to pervert their teachings, Jesus took pains to assure them that he had not come with a new religion - no new laws and no new regulations. I quote his own words: 'THINK NOT THAT I AM COME TO DESTROY THE LAW, OR THE PROPHETS: I AM NOT COME TO DESTROY, BUT TO FULFIL. FOR VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, ONE JOT OR ONE TITLE SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, TILL ALL BE FULFILLED.' (Mathew 5:17-18). In other words he had not come with any new laws or regulation he came only to fulfill the old law.

I honestly don't know, however regarding your note about Matthew 5:17-18, I think most Christians believe that many of the laws of the Old Testament were to keep alive and clean the bloodline which would lead to the Messiah. So much of the Old Testament is written like a survival guide. And now that the Messiah has come, and gone, upholding these laws doesn't apply.

At least, that's what I've gathered.

No, neither modern Christians nor modern Jews (except possibly for the ultra-Orthodox sects?) do this anymore.

I've read that sometimes they went into a special tent set aside for them, at least in earlier times, and spent the week there together. And uncleanliness is not the end of the world; things can be purified. And you know, in a medical way, it kind of makes sense. Some of the worst diseases are transmitted through blood, and without nifty things like tampons and pads, blood was a bit more likely to get on places like a woman's bed or clothing. So the week of 'uncleanliness' could be unwittingly used as disease-control.

Obviously, if you read while typing, this is only during the daylight hours. And this was because they were afraid of blood that would not clot.

I don't know what version you were reading, but you need to read one of the newly translated versions for a better rendition. "Unclean" means exactly that - not clean, as in you can get a disease from the blood. Which you could - they didn't have disposable pads and tampons, and many germs and viruses love blood as a food. So having to wash your hands, clothes, and sheets makes sense when taken in context.

As a Jewish person, I know that these laws do still apply to us - between a husband and wife. During the time of her menstruation he may not touch her (of course not sex).

The Torah teaches us how to deal with every aspect of our lives, and sex is one of them. There are many laws regarding a husband and wife having sex - it is considered a very holy thing for us because we have a commandment to have children.

The Torah is wise - G-d knew that human nature is that if someone has unlimited access to something then eventually they will get bored. This process doesnt allow the couple to have sex for a short amount of time every month, thereby helping to keep the husband excited and marriage good.

Thank God that was under the Old Covenant. We have been delivered by the Blood That was shed. Remember before Jesus, blood was everything. He says in the New Testament, that which I call clean, don't you call unclean.

Leviticus 15 etc had a substantial reason that no longer applies.
The bible is a source of comfort and teaches us how to best take care of ourselves. There are many devices and articles available now that weren't 2800 years ago. Normal cleanliness today , makes old laws un necessary. we no longer go to rivers to baptize. Very few carry water to cook and clean with.
But if the circumstances still apply to you and where you live, then by all means obey them. If it also applies to your husbands cleanliness let him wash.

Most Christians believe that this is a ritual law of the kind that was abolished when Christ rose from the dead. The law comes from a society in which a menstruating woman went into virtual seclusion.

these were the laws that god made for moses in the old covenant. when jesus died for us, he made a new covenant. so the old laws were relenquished, and gods mercy was shown down on us. although some of the laws are still good to abide by god had to make the rules strict because the hebrews were very rebellious!

hope that helps

These are merely the uninformed opinions of dominating men. They wrote this drivel to increase their power over women and make them think that they should be submissive and inferior. They also wrote that during this time of a woman's cycle she should refrain from praying as the god that these men invented in their image and likeness, would also be offended.

This is part of the mosaic law given to the Israelites.
Christians are not required to keep the law, it was part of the covenant between the Jewish people and God.
