I was neutral for a long time. There were cats on the farm where I grew up, but their place was in the barn, keeping the rats and mice under control. I accepted cats for what I saw them to be, useful farm animals but not pets.
I'm a lot older now, and a lot wiser about cats. My daughter and her two kids live with me, and my granddaughter has two cats.
The female is small. Her name is Tiger Lily. She's what I call a demi-cat. She's mostly mute. She has very unusual marking - a tiger striped calico.
TJ is her kitten. He is gray and black tiger stripped with a white bib and boots. He is NOT mute, and complains loudly to be fed or let out. When he was small we called him Mighty Mouser because he was so small. Now he is twice the size of his mother. He has a birth defect that makes his tail look like the number seven or a furry hockey stick.
Like people, these cats have personality, love attention and affection and have very strong communication skills, including body language. They adore the children and tolerate our little poodle. There are times when I think the dog thinks he is a cat, and times when I think TJ thinks he is a dog.
Do I like cats? No, I love cats.
