Start by talking to her like she was a friend of yours----shoot, say like "oh my gosh Sue (or whatever her name happens to be) I had THE worse diarrhea EVER today. My poop smelled like hot mayo and vomit...kinda like Mary's puke did that night she threw up on David's lap!" And when she says she has no idea what you are talking about, say...."well, then YOU must have the wrong number......pay attention next time!" (but. remember, she is only trying to do her job. Pay your bills) I once told them that I tried selling a kidney, but it's not legal to ebay body parts!!

OK, this is for real what I'm going to tell you. When they call ask them for there official name, the name of the person who takes this call and the address. Kindly tell them you are writing a "Cease and Desist letter". It is illegal for them to keep calling you, did you know that? Its called harassment! I just snuffed three of them out my life by sending out a "Cease and Desist", you write a letter hand written to the company in which you just got an address from and if they are real persistent, send it certified. It is illegal for them to ever call you again after receiving this letter! Ill bet you didn't know that. Once you learn you are the one in control and not them, the whole table turns! You are the one who should not be getting calls and most people are unaware of this. Go to a search engine and type" Consumers rights against bill collectors" and you will get the exact idea and law of what I'm telling you here. Please look this up so you know how to do this if you didn't understand what I just said. Some idiots will try to be persistent and tell you that they don't have to stop calling until they get the letter but after you tell them verbally, keep you answer machine on keep close record when they call back if they have enough nerve to do it without loosing there jobs! I don't think they will ever call again though because harassment law suits can cost a company allot of money. They just bank on the idea that you are stupid and don't know what i just told you. But now you are none the wiser. Reply to me if you have any trouble!

There are certain guidelines that collection agencies must follow -- harassing or verbally abusing someone is prohibited. Check the FCC website for details (assuming you are in the U.S.). Familiarize yourself with the debt collection guidelines, and tell the agent that you will have them fired for violating your rights. If they are not breaking any laws though, they are just doing their job. It's simple enough -- don't rack up bills that you can't pay, and you won't have this issue.

You need to read "THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT". Than you will know you can write them a letter and all communication will stop. In fact, if you remind them that abusive language, threats and harassment are against the law, this collection may disappear completely. Mention in your letter that any further communication must be handled through your attorney (don't give them any names). This will put them in the proverbial round room trying to find a corner to pee in

voting for sonia's answer, but you should research the limits of collection agencies. they are not allowed to harass you, yell or curse at you. know your rights!!
my two personal favorites were the folks who were going to repossess my car without knowing my address (they cashed my check but never posted it), "if you can find me, you can have it"
and
someone trying to collect on a >7 yr old debt (with no activity in those years). Statute of limitations was out and they had no proof of the original debt. I kept quoting the credit laws back to them and got really ticked that I knew what I was talking about.
Don't let 'em get to you!!
PS, a free credit counseling agency can help if you are really in trouble. I got out of my mess myself, but my sister was really helped by an agency.

Ask them if you can tell them about Jesus.
If that doesn't work, ask them if they know if there's a blood bank where you can sell your blood so that you can pay them. When they say no, tell them that you are very surprised because they are sucking you dry. Then hang up.
Or tell them that they sound cute and ask if they want to meet you for a cup of coffee. Tell them that they'll have to pay, because you're broke.

Pretend that they are telling you that you won something and keep leading them on till they hang up. Or ask them to hold and sit phone down for a long time.
