There are many file sharing software and many of them, like bearshare , morpheus, or e donkey comes with spyware.
So whenever you use be careful about that.
Bittorrent and limeware are two good option. But as you have to upload when downloading from bittorrent, it may be problem if your bandwidth is low.
Limeware is good option but its search is some how slow, but if you use it for some days you will be able to master it.
You can also use emule, but it's download speed is initially slow, untill you have gained sufficient reptation by uploading files.

BitTorrent (or any torrent client) - large capacity of downloads available on anything you want, doesn't require searching through a list that you can't see or an invisible P2P database. You can max out with over 500mbps on some files (especially those with 200 uploaders and 3 downloaders)
Limewire Pro - For downloading music only. Software is usually if not always infected with viruses, movies are generally poor quality or low res.

BitTorrent for large files. (I recommend BitTornado as a client)
LimeWire Pro for smaller files.
A suggested these two because of the vast selection of content available, and the convenience and speed of download.
