Like dogs, cats usually live about ten to twelve years. A good rule of thumb when trying to compare how far along in life a cat is to you is to take the number of years they have been alive, and multiply by six (seven for dogs). By that figure, your cat is the equivalent of 102 years old... he's done a great job for a cat, but he's very old at this point. I can understand if it's his time.

Cats can live to be 25 years or so, but 18 is pretty old. He could not be eating because you changed his cat food to moist, some cats hate canned or moist food.
Given his age and that he stopped eating, I would definately get him to the vet as soon as possible, because usually when an animals stops eating it means that something else is wrong.

By the time most cats reach seven years of age, they are entering their senior years. The record for the longest feline life span is 36 years. But most indoor cats will live between 14-19 years old.
Looks like your cat had a nice long life. I would not expect it to hang on much more than two or three years.
Good luck!

I have one who's 16, my mom has his biological mother, who is 17. We put one down several years ago who was 19. I believe the world record is around 36.
18 is getting up there in years. You can take him to the vet if you want. They may be able to do something to prolong his life and/or let you know if he's suffering at all. I wouldn't spend all kinds of money to prolong the life of an animal that is suffering, though. (not sure if that's the case, but the lack of appitite thing leads me to believe it might be)

There are no exacts, but your cat is at the end of his life cycle. It sounds as if he is starting to fade. This is normal and natural. 18 years is a nice long life for a cat. Love him and keep him comfortable. Offer him soft things that are palatable to his fading appetite and enjoy the time you have with him.

I had a cat who lived to 18 and then it was completely downhill from there. The oldest cat I ever knew personally belonged to a neighbor. "Happy" was 28 when he died.

i hate to tell you this but my 17 year old cat did the same thing and we had to put him down last year. 18 is old and it's time to say goodbye because he is not eating and it's time to let him go
