basically

the concept comes from the Idea that one is not allowed to carry a load from a public to a private area on the sabbath.

there are 39 prohibited activity's on the Sabbath that co-respond with the 39 main activities needed to put up the Tabernacle in the dessert.

These activities were prohibited because the Nation of Israel is supposed to rest from all acts of creation on the seventh day to remember that G-d also rested on the seventh "day" after he created the world

the sabbath is meant to be a day set aside from our working lives and is to be dedicated to the service and study of G-d and his nature

there was a riddle:
what's heavier a pound of rock or a pound of feathers?.......

there is no difference between items
the shabbos commandment is carrying from property to property
or from 1 domain to another
so yes you cant carry a feather or a brick or a cookie
by the way this is a far more detailed issue than a 3 line question
people can spend YEARS studying this there are 2 large talmud tractates that discuss this

hmmm.....on shabbot (btw correct spelling, or shabbos, depending on whether you're sephardic or azkanazi) you aren't allowed to do any work, and perhaps the feather means that even if your work is only carrying a feather (not difficult at all) you still must not do it.

the talmud will have a much more complete explanation with a lot more commentary.

Yes you are right. It does not mean only a feather specifically but anything at all (if there is an "eruv" you may carry - long story). There are 39 malachot - laws that we may not do on Shabbos and carrying anything from one property to another is one of them and not allowed.

I'm not sure, but I think what you are meaning to spell is Sabbath. (maybe)
