in china i dont recall anyone ever getting carded for drinking...though when i was in shanghai they were thinking about passing some sort of a law so that some quick marts would have to card people and not sell alcohol to people under 18. in hong kong, some of the younger guys with us got carded to make sure they were 18 years old.
not sure about smoking...though i did see a lot of really young kids smoking all throughout china.

You can drink at any age but you have to be 18 to purchase alcohol.
As for the smoking I wasnt too sure on so I looked it up and they have studies on people smoking as young as 11. But I believe the legal age is 18..probley just to purchase as well. but I dont know for sure.

as long as you live w/ your parents you are not allowed to smoke nor drink at least not in the house. most asian families are conservative so they stay with their parents till 20's. so having these vices are usually done out of sight due to respect
