I just realized something i know the Pak means eat in Japanese. Well there is this Japanese candy I love called Pocky. Does it come from the same root word as Pak? And what does it mean?

Well, actually the verb for eat in japanese is "tabemasu", Pak is used in the mangas (japanese comics) and in the anime as a representation for the sound the people do while eating. The most of the times it is used for crunchy things, such as cookies, etc. I believe the name "pocky" for the candy (i love them too, specialy chocolate ones) is a mixture between the sound in the mangas "pok" or "puk" and the japanese name for occidental cookies ku-ki (taken fron english). In japanese there are many words taken fron english such as ke-ki (cake), doa (door), kurasu me-to (class-mate), etc. Hope that helps.

â¡I've never heard the word "pak" to mean "eat" in Japanese. It's probably a short version for another word or sound. I always use "taberu" which means to eat.
"Pocky" is the name of a popular Japanese snack!
Some people think it's a cute and catchy name.

The Japanese speakers I know pronounce the name of this food to rhyme with "smoky", not the way you are thinking. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be based on a Japanese word or if they just invented a word that sounded like it could be English.
I like Pocky, too.
