And don't quote from the bible because it's just a story book and don't question my beliefs as that will add nothing as it is irrelevant and it is your time to defend your beliefs and don't tell me it's faith because I want a reason not just because you blindly and unquestioningly agree with everything you are told by a man with a book in a church, and don't say how else could it be because just read a science book and you will see.

I do know better than god does as god is a fictitious character from a story book and there is no reason to believe otherwise.

0110010100 no because what I believe I have though about and looked at the evidence and that is why I believe it is true because I though about it not just accepted it.

awnery FANTASTIC!! Brilliant well done on that one I don't have the right to tell you there isn't a god but you can all shout at me and tell me I will spend all eternity suffering if I don't. If you can tell me that lie I can tell you the truth. And the truth is you are wrong.

I agree.
If i said to all my class mates that there was white teapot orbiting the sun, they would think i was a derranged phsycopath, but if when you were born your parents and nearly everybody you knew said there was a white teapot orbiting the sun you would be mad NOT to believe it. Therefore if people would think i was crazy if i said there was such thing as god without any evidence or reason to say so, but if it was passed down you would be inclined to believe it unless you have a strong mind of your own and a brain!
ps: i'm fourteen years old and i probably have a higher i.q than most of you fools answering this question.
hope i helped you!

I do not believe in blind faith and I follow no organised religion however I do believe in God. God being a higher power or overall meaning to the universe something which Science will never be able to explain. Many of the worlds most famous scientists did believe in the existence of a God to explain how much of nature could be based on such organised principles.
You should always keep an open mind and try to empathise with why other people hold the beliefs they do.
People who think Science is nothing but proven fact are very very wrong and it is hypocritical to argue that it is. Belief in science is just that it is a ‘belief”. Science is no more or less a religion than Christianity or Islam.
Those that believe totally in the teachings of Science must remember that it is purely based on the best possible theory at the time. Scientists today laugh at the ‘facts’ science taught in the past and scientists of the future will laugh at our ‘facts’. For example is was widely taught as a fact that the world was flat. There were lots of tests that proved this to be the case, in fact there were even inventions that moved forward civilisation based on the fact the world was flat. This idea seems ridiculous now. In time our current theories of DNA and Space and evolution will be seen as ridiculous and will be replaced by new ‘facts’.
I’m not saying I think Science is complete rubbish just that you must take everything as the best possible explanation at the time.

I don't think I am too stupid to understand science but in an equal vein are too stupid? Can you honestly tell me that you are some highly qualified scientist (phd, doctorate, etc etc)? Are you a highly qualified academic, historian, biologist, archaeologist who can prove to me evolution without a shadow of doubt?
If science is so exacting why is that we now have all these environmental, animal welfare and general health problems? Surely science would have evaluated the different risks and avoided these catastrophies?
If you simply want to dismiss the evidence as quoted from the scriptures (Bible, Bhagavat-Gita), then you are like an ignorant Judge who would want to condemn someone without examining the evidence. Therefore your request for not wanting to see any Bible/scriptural quotes is probably just a sign of your ignorance?
It is true that there are a lot of people who blindly follow religion, but equally there are a lot who blindly accept all that is foisted on them by politicians, economists, scientists and media.
If you really had any intelligence and an open mind then you would have asked for some other proof.
I am sure I could read a hundred science books and not really get to answer where life came from, how the universe was created or why people die, however, you can get these answers by just reading one book (the Bible, Bhagavat Gita or Quran).

That's a tough one.
I think most people would say that believing God is not a choice, it is just something that happens.
Of course, in your post you said that you don't believe the bible because you think it is a story book. You are neglecting to consider that the majority of people who believe in God do not read the bible - Christianity is not the largest religion in the world, nor is it the only one. Belief in God is a worldwide phenomenon and not just reserved fr bible-readers.
Personally, I believe in God because I believe in science, as Newton said every action has an equal an opposite reaction: ergo, cause and effect. Our existence is an effect, and God is the cause,
Essentially, it's the idea of intelligent design. Our bodies, never mind the world they inhabit or the universe they are set in, are such complex organisms that they cannot have existed by chance - we have all been created. Science is the study of HOW we have been created. Personally, every time I learn something new about science, some new interesting quirk about how the universe works, I just marvel at God's genius and majesty at creating something so complicated that works so well.
Believing in God is something wonderful. When you realise that you have creator who loves you with an infinite love you never feel alone and many of the burdens of this world, despair, anxiety, fear, hate, are lifted from your shoulders.
His thoughts towards you are as numerous as the granis of sand on the beach. I will pray for you tonight, because I think you need God's love and support.
Of course I'm not a Christian................. I am a Muslim. Alhamdullilah.

Since you took away my option of faith, I'd say I believe in God because of personal experince. The feeling of joy that I get when I'm worshiping Him is like nothing else in the world. That feeling is totally different from when I'm putting my heart into singing any other song. There's a lot more to it, but I have a feeling you probably don't want to hear about it.
As for defending my beliefs, I haven't been on earth long enough to have more than a basic understand of why I believe what I believe. But from what I have read (and not retained details too well), and personal experience, There is no reason in the world I could stop loving my God.

Ya, I don't agree with the religion shet either. But science doesn't disaprove God, b/c it can't. Science and religion are two different things. Science uses evidence to prove things. Religion can't be proved or disaproved, it's just a belief. But I do beleive the a majority of those that believe in him and the bible is ridiculous b/c they support nothing at all. Almost as if God was a fictional creation so people could be more at ease that life isn't easy and they can blame it on someone else and hope on something else rather than taking their own actions.

The bible is indeed the creation of man and shouldn't be believed in literally.
Religion provides one possible answer for the mystery of life that is the reason people beleive in it. Religion has existed from prehistoric times right through to the current day, it is a major part of our history and reminds us of the need for an answer to our question.
Humanity wants to believe in God because it needs an answer to the curiosity of life. That curiosity has driven humanity to do great things the power to think and imagine is what has set us up as the dominant species of Earth.
I personally don't believe in God at least not the way he is portrayed by modern religion because it is a mass cure for the question that drives our existence.
Science isn't all knowing either it tells us these things are true by delving into them and trying to understand their working. Science also trys to understand the meaning religion does but with a different method of investigation.
Neither Science or Religion yet has the answer to our most pressing question in life: What is the meaning of Life?
That question drives both Science and Religion.
In the end Life is a journey open to navigation by the individual. Death is the end of that journey and no-one living knows what is beyond it. God could exist he might not we don't know yet. But the chase and mystery of What is the Meaning of Life? is what drives life itself and the discovery's made trying to understand it.
I think it should never be answered.

allow me to ask u an equally stupid question: why do u believe science?
but seriously, science really doesnt prove the unexistence of a god. maybe u can update ur question with some science unproving a god.
faith is the only reason, u cant say 'dont give this for an answer'
and ur basically doing the same thing with science, following it blindly. no offense but do u actually read beyond what u learn? i do with both science and religion. btw i believe in darwinian evolution, fyi
o yeah, answering ur question:
one thing i always found interesting was how every anceint culture, no matter the location, had a belief in some higher power, and i dont mean wind god, and water god, and god for every natural occurance, i mean some super mackdaddy who was in charge. native americans called him the great spirit, mayans called him quetzalcuatl, greeks called him chaos, christians call him God the father.

there were so many so called scientific fact a few decades ago that are proven to be wrong by science itself and are considered facts for today, however there's no such thing as absolute science, e.g "Lucy the begging of human life".
A decade ago people (science people) like you believe that Lucy was the beggining of human life. However scientist nowadays proved otherwise. Scientists continue to discover and rediscover a lot of things, but maybe the only thing science has proven to be in constant is that *** like you exist.
By the way you don't have the right to call religious people stupid. You may think that you are smart because of your science books. and maybe you are, you are one very big smart looking ***, (sorry).
P.S.
And science also say that mankind evolved from apes, and you one very good example, a very big smart looking evolving ape ***

Depends. There's the mechanistic view - brain development in certain areas differs in believers to none believers. Psychologically - we grow up with the idea of parents, so it is comfortable to have a superparent, once we realise our human parents are not all powerful or perfect.
But don't knock the bible as just a story book - witness how many stories there are in the world and how many are written new each day? It meets a profound human need.
A Christian once pointed to me how often Fundamentalism was linked to
people with a mathamatical bent amongst his university friends, which goes with the brain theory.
