I think my home is a haven for old, used-up junebugs that are just waiting to die.

Every night, when I go outside for a cigarette, I have to share my front porch with 6 or 7 dozen geriatric junebugs. Then, every morning, I have to sweep their dry, crispy little corpses off the porch.

Is there a little Statue of Liberty in my yard that says, "Give me your aged, your tired, your weak, your used-up...? If so, did the French build that too?

Maybe I should start a little Motel 6 in the front yard, away from the house? Y'know... We'll leave the light on for ya?

Or maybe a junebug nursing home. Like, I could hang a cardboard box from the tree, upside down, with a bright light in it, and put a garbage can underneath it? What do you think?

Cute! Hey do you smoke outside with the light on. Just read about them (just to answer your question.....didn't want to look like an idiot and not know what they were. Says they use the moon and stars as points of orientation to help them dicern direction so when they see a brighter source of light, they mistake it for one the these objects and orient to it eventually colliding with the light!

go with the nursing home...everybody need to be loved...I once rescued a grasshopper outta a wasp grasp that was trying to fly away with it! Unfortunately it died.....

Here is Concord CA, we don't have June Bugs....at least not that I've every seen.
We've got Cockroaches that bask in the warm late night air on the sidewalks when you go for a walk....uck!

I have seen junebugs like you have described. However, I had to laugh out loud at your solutions!! A Motel 6??? Come on now.

I quit going out to have my cigarettes without shoes. THey are SO very crunchy when ya step on them. And every so often, that one who wants to live to be 100 gets in the way and does not crunch but merely moans when I step on her (as you know, we females outlive the males by a mere few years).

No, the French did not build your S of L. But do you have a back porch. Or, hey, try a bug zapper about 50 to 75 feet away. It fried them and you can use them in stir fry to feed the homeless.

Hi,
i think you should take a break, you are going to have a rougher time next month, the julybugs are much bigger and tougher...
and don't waste your electricity , the light would be on, but nobody at home..

LOL....motel 6 is that because June is the 6th month? and they are June Bugs?

They are crazy, they fly right into you, and I screech everytime. (I find they are mostly out at dusk, so I changed the time I walk the dog).

:-)
