He was the father of Rachel & Leah, the first 2 wives of Jacob. He is basically portrayed as a greedy, dishonest man. He tricked Jacob, who had agreed on giving Laban a certain amount of service in exchange for the hand of his daughter, Rachel, in marriage. Laban substituted his daughter Leah on the wedding day, however, and Jacob accepted the substitution, and had to agree to a further period of service in exchange for Rachel. Traditionally he is portrayed as a greedy, lazy drunkard, but the Bible really only gives you the greedy/sneaky thing.

Laban in the Bible is Rebeckah's Brother. Rebeckah was Jacob's wife.
In the Book of Mormon, a record used in conjunction with the bible in the LDS faith, there is a record of another Laban. In this book, Nephi and his brothers, after fleeing Jerusalem because God told them it would be destroyed, went back to Jerusalem to obtain the precious record in Laban's possession. Most members of the LDS faith believe that the record that they retrieved was the Scriptures (possibly the tora, because the family obeyed the law of moses).

As you read of Laban did you learn anything? That's why all characters are put into the Bible, so that we can learn of human nature.
