Does anyone have information about the theater (stage) on Governors Island?

Question

There's an abandoned stage on Governors Island and I'm trying to find out who performed there. Did the base have a theater company? Was it for high school kids? Did shows from NYC come to the island?

The Statue of Liberty 319th Army Band
The Army established a music school on Governors Island in the 1830's, so its fitting that New York's own Statue of Liberty Band returns to Governors Island to present a selection of patriotic tunes and favorites of the band.
