At work, one of my coworkers was sipping on hot water. I asked why. She said she was on a "diet" and that warm/hot water was supposed to contract her stomach muscles so she couldn't eat as much..Is this bogus or what?

It's bogus.

The warm water will only give a fuller feeling at meal times. When a large amount of warm water is taken in the morning, it can have a cleansing effect.

Ice water will cause the stomach to contract so that it can not hold as much.

Self control is the best diet agent.

If you drink hot or warm water, it reduces your food intake, because it fills your stomach. Your body thinks that you have eaten food and stops hunger pangs. That is the way it helps loose weight not by contracting stomach muscles.
There is also a theory that, if your drink hot water or warm water, your sweat and loose water that way and weight. It is of course a "theory".

Absolutely nothing, water is water, no matter if it's hot or cold. By the time it gets down to your stomach the water has no impact on the muscles; it just helps break down food and empties out your body...so trust me, all she's doing is to help keep her body healthy and well maintained, so she is doing that much right by drinking the water...
