my husband was getting cavitites filled at the dentist office and the dentist and assistant (both females) were talking about painting rooms in their houses. the dentist said that she had put vanilla extract in the paint before painting the room...and now the room smells of vanilla?? has anyone ever heard of doing this?? and does it really work??

This does work and only requires a spoon of vanilla extract per gallon of paint. It will not rot, or change the color in any way, it simply covers the smell of the paint. You can also cut a large onion in half, place it in the room, then after painting throw away the onion that has soaked up the paint smell.

That wouln't work! The smell would not last long. The walls would get sticky. And the vanilla would probably rot! I don't know much about painting but I'm sure you shouldn't put food stuffs in your walls.

I've heard of this. I would hope that the smell would eventually go away.
