The Holy Spirit's job is to guide us in our decisions, and thoughts, and actions...

To use laymen terms:

The Holy Spirit prompts us to seek forgiveness...

The Holy Spirit sometimes prompts us to speak to somebody...

The Holy Spirit gives us "discernment" so we can distinguish between good and evil...

The Holy Spirit petitions us sometimes to say nothing, plus alot of other things ---

...The big question is: How often do we obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit???

It's God who stays with you all the time! So very awesome. He does all of the great comforting guiding action that other people described. I think one of my personal favorite things about the Holy Spirit is that he helps us pray and actually speaks to God on our behalf in a way (Romans 8:26). I love it! So often I feel like I don't even know what to pray and thats why He's here. John 16 has a lot about His role also.

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter that Christ promised to all those who believe and are baptised. It was given to us as a comfort for Christ being crucified. It will lead us and guide us each day and also is somewhat of an intuition or an additional conscience... in that if we are sinning, it lets us know (in a way). It mostly leads us to know the truth. You can read about it in the first 4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John).

Dear Bill,

The Holy Spirit is God with us.

He is the comforter. He provides us peace and joy and maintains us (Christians) in relationship with God.

Cordially,
John

i've noticed that since i've spent more time in the spirit, i have been given gifts and abilities i didn't have before... i used to have a gift of art, but in the past few years i have noticed that i am much stronger in discernment and my convictions.

i ask the spirit to cover me at night while i sleep. a girl i know was in africa when the village she was in was being pillaged/raped/burned down. she fell asleep with the holy ghost covering her and the intruders didn't see anyone sleeping in her or her friend's bed when they entered her hut, and she survived.

i know the holy spirit can enter into you and make you completely drunk with joy, i've never really had that happen but i've seen it a few times.

the spirit is the connection between us and God
