He usually just nips and occasionally scratches, but that is when he is being playful. But for some reason he has taken a liking to hiding under our bed. While doing so, he just sits and growls, and when you try to see if he is into anything, he will try and bite you. At first, I thought it was that he was hiding something, but we cleaned out underneath the bed, and still nothing has changed. Amazing thing is that as soon as he comes out from under the bed, he becomes his normal playful self. I am at a loss, if anyone can help.

MAN IT'S HIS OWN SPACE......my pom does it also, they go under the bed to sleep or not be disturbed.....just know he is saying to you, hey----------my space my time out, leave me alone.
usually they just like to go get quiet or take a nap. do not envade his space, give him his time out, we all need our time out, including the pet people. he is fine.

My guess is that your dog is not crate trained. Dogs are den animals, and so enjoy small, dark, enclosed places. Your dog is treating the area under your bed as his den. I suggest purchasing a crate for your dog to give him his own private space within your home. A crate should be large enough for your adult dog to stand up, turn around, and lie stretched out flat on his side. It should not be large enough for him to sleep in one end and eliminate in the other. You will need to block off the area so that he cannot get under the bed. Let him go in and explore the crate on his own. If he goes in, give LOTS of praise. In the beginning do not force the dog into the crate. Be sure to praise any attempt by the dog to explore the crate. After a few times in and out of the crate, close the door while the dog is inside, but DO NOT move out of sight. Gradually increase the time your dog is in the crate until he is comfortable being in the crate when you are out of the room. You may want to cover the top of the crate with a blanket or towel to give it a den-like feel for your dog. In no time, your dog should be using the crate as his own private room. It is important not to disturb your dog if he decides to go in his crate on his own for a nap or relaxation. If your dog tries to give you a hard time about leaving the crate, put a leash on him and say "let's go" as you give the leash a light tug. I hope this information helps you and your best friend.....

Maybe he is feeling trapped? Dogs get scared when they are backed into a corner.

For some reason, your dog has claimed this as his turf. Just leave him there and praise him when he comes out.

He probably hides because he knows you are a titty a$$. Also, he may be scared of your bratty a$$ kids!

my dog has a "personal" space. where when he goes in no one is alowwed to touch him or bother him, a place where he can be alone. it sounds like your dog has chosen his, if it doesn't hurt enything, let him have it.

He probably calls that HIS place and wants to protect that place...... My grandmother's dog used to do that.
