knowing that you "don't think about lots of things, to get through my day and be happy" is not ignorant, it's almost the only manner to not kill yourself. Ignorance is, in my book, not even knowing what's going on in the world. Or, even worse, knowing what's going on, and then invent a reason in your head to make the problems go away, like one of the answerers above me did. "there are enough jobs for the homeless people, so i can scratch that problem of my list" (freely quoted)
From the very little i know about you (and that's only a few questions and answers i did read) you're, of course, not ignorant at all.
I try to do a lot of things for the less-fortunate in this world, but it's also kinda useless, because it still makes me feel bad because i can never do enough.
And i do it a little different than you do. I try to think about lots of things, to be more thankfull for my own life. That gets me through the day more happy. And in some weird way, that's even more selfish than not thinking at all.
( i so much wanted to use the word "blissful" in my answer, but i don't know what it means, and i'm too lazy today to even open the dutch-english dictionary..maybe later i'll add one sentence to this answer, when i figured out what blissful is...but probably not, as i said..lazy day today)

Homeless people, although it's not like I don't think about them, I just don't care. There is sooo much work out there but they just sit there and beg for change. Seriously, I've known people who were homeless then one day they just said "enough" and they got a job. Three of them that I know moved up to Canada, and worked on the oil rigs. They came back after four months with over $50,000!!! Then they got their lives back on track here. Oil rigs, forestry, all that sort of out of town camp work will hire ANYBODY, so I don't see why they just don't go out and work for a few months then they can get back on track. It's just pathetic to me, there this one guy I see on my way to work every day. He sits outside the 711 near my work and just has his little hat out in front of him. He's been there since I started working here, which was five years ago!! People here say he's been there as long as nine years! How lazy do you have to be? I see him get up and walk away sometimes, he's perfectly capable, he speaks just fine, he has no physical/mental problems that I have ever seen. So that's a problem I have no respect for, but I'm done my rant now; ignorance though? I guess I'm ignorant of all the suffering in third world countries, I see those sponsor a child things on TV and just change the channel, I always figure some one else will do it and I don't need to throw in my "less than a dollar a day."

Look, if you want to be happy and in your own little pathetic world that is obsessed with trivial nothings like celebs and "do I pet my dog enough" I can't stop you. But I think your pathetic that you can't even try to help your fellow humans or anything. I think your little more than a bimbo. I'm not saying that you have to live organic or vegetarian, but try to be aware of just one thing outside of your little world. Donate a little money to a charity, I would suggest the hepher foundation that gives animals to poor villages so they have meat and something to take to market. Or adopt a child, pay $14/month to children international. If thats too much, volunteer an afternoon at Boy's and Girl's Club. Read a newspaper. Be a penpal. Try to help someone you don't know.
I'm not saying you have to devote your life to something, just take a little time, energy, money or USE YOUR BRAIN for something.

There's a whole lot of stuff I don't acknowledge.
Some of it is self-preservation; I would implode if I thought about a lot of things seriously. Some of it is just ignorance. Some of it is just plain laziness.
I'd like to say it's approx 1/3 each - but I think that's not acknowledging th truth either.

Ignorance can be very blissful. For example I wish I still had the same innocence as I did as a child. Wish I didn't know how cruel people really are.

ignorance is not bliss. you can chose to close your eyes and ears to everything around you, but the crime is closing the immense possibility that BLISS is! not making any sense? check the website: www.ishayoga.org and that is the doorway to true bliss! i never expected something like this: 100 times more powerful than orgasm and all over the body, not just a few body parts, and...it can last for hours and hours! it's not a chemical, it is BLISS!!!
