So I'm robbing this liquor store, when suddenly I recognize the guy behind the counter. It's my old high school gym teacher!

Well, I want to say hi to him, reminisce with him about old times at school, but if I do so, this might cause some social embarassment for him as he would have to admit to having somehow lost his job and taking this crappy job in it's place.

What was the best option for me here? Should I have just pretended I didn't recognize him (he of course didn't recognize me as I was masked), or should I ignore the possible breach of etiquette and take the chance of possibly rekindling an old friendship? He was a great guy!

As you were demanding the money, you could've said something like Shoot me the money, c'mon pass from the chest, keep your eyes on the money, i wanna see the money being passed around, don;t hog the money...his eyes would've teared up ,Elron, because he would've known how much you learned from him,,,you could've hugged him right then and said THANKS, COACH, see how much I learned from you?? Ahhhman, you missed an opportunity!!

I have been in that same exact position and I feel for you. I really do. This is what I did.

You know you feel sorry for the guy becasue he was demoted from teacher to cashier, I mean he went from a white mans job to a middle eastern mans job imagine that. The best thing to do in this situation is go back to the cooler, grab two beers, open one for him and open the other for yourself, then give a salute and tell him you will see him later.

Go home, take off the mask and stroll back into the store (I would wait about 1-2 days so the cops can finish the investigation) then strike up a conversation like its the first time you have been in the store. There is nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong with making your ex-gym teacher ID you in a police line up, Imagine what it would do to him?

It would crush his little gym teacher heart.

You could always take your mask of and say; "Hi, I'm an idiot for robbing this liquor store and I was wondering if you got kicked off your job as a teacher or if you are just working here part-time because teachers don't get paid so well."

You shouldn't say anything at that time, as it would be socially awkward for him. But you should go back a few days later to say hi and catch up. When he tells you about the robbery that happened a few days before, tell him "That's so weird, because I ran into this guy who told me he robbed a liquor store, and he felt guilty so he gave me the money to give back to you"

first off you need to go back & talk to him... if your "robbing liquor stores" you need guidance. He may have made some mistakes in his life but at least he is making an honest living. he may be able to give you guidance in your life even thou he may not be able to guide his own (most educaters are like that). you need to look at the big picture & if robbing liquor stores is your lifestyle this lifestyle will catch up with you down the road. you need a good friend at this time & if the 2 of you had a good relationship maybe you could work at the liquor store instead of robbing it

If you were in the process of a robbery I don't think that it would be the ideal time for a trip down memory lane regardless of the other points. You could always come around the area at closing time another day and run into him - maybe less embarrassing no proof of working there just happened to be there type of thing.

You should not have been robbing the liquor store in the first place. At least he works for a living and you STEAL.
He is dignified in his situation and YOU ARE NOT.
At least if you had asked him, he could have told the cops who was the THIEF and they could have put you behind bars where you belong. That would atleast teach you WHY YOU SHOULD NOT STEAL.
THAT IS THE ETIQUETTE YOU NEED TO LEARN.
THOU SHALL NOT STEAL.

It would be better for you not to rob, but anyway that's what you choose and it's up only to you to decide to change or no! But, I agree with the other answerer's that you shouldn't do with your old buddy what you wanted to do, because of your own dignity, because I think that your friend wouldn't be happy to see his old friend robbing a shop! Don't' you think so?

uhhhhh................ why were you robbing a liquor store? if i were in this situation, though i'd try not to be, i would pretend to not know him. If you are robbing a store, its probably not too smart to try and talk to the person you are robbing stuff from.
