There's a saying that says, "Blood's thicker than water."
There are times we argue even with trivial things but when it comes to serious matters, we're always there for each other and if one of them is to protect them from anybody who would harm them. Although there are times we like teasing each other, we don't like seeing/knowing somebody else likes to pick on us.

Maybe because of your age bias you see his genuine affection as a move. If she feels she likes him don't stir the Kool Aid you were not invited to stick your spoon in.
