Hypothetically, indoors with a flash 60th at 5.6. There are way too many variables. Flash or no flash? What speed film are you using? Indoors or outdoor? How much depth of field do you want?

Something that needs to be cleared up.. the camera doesn't make the photograph, it just records the image.

A perfect baby portrait is also only known by the mother and the father. What you may like they may not.

Check out the link below for ideas from a great children's photograher.

Something to keep in mind. Lighting is key!! without proper lighting the image is nothing.

first thing, get a nice big white sheet, lay it on top of you bed and even right up over head board. Put baby in the middle, if its big enough lay it on its belly. Then come right back so that babys in the middle and all else you can see is white. Try and do it in day day time with all blinds open. And make sure the camera foucses on the babys face, eyes are best.

try lots of different things the more pics the higher the chances of some really amazing ones being in the pile, no matter how good you are, luck is a big factor with babies. Also, have somebody the baby loves around, if they entertain it, you don't have to make it smile as well as taking the photos!

its not the setting,it is what angle u take it from and how u want it to look. Do u want just a baby pic of head and shoulders? or something more modern like ur baby wrapped in a fluffy towel lying down and u take the pic when he/she is smiling and laughing.just something a bit diff from the usual boring baby pics

While I'm not sure of the setting I do know that natural light is best. Also do not use extra fancy detracting clothing and try for a close up.
