My female cat insists on eating vegitation of all sorts, grass, house plants and flowers. Within 15 minutes she pucks it all up. Why does she do this and is there a way of breaking the habit short of a muzzle?

You have a very normal kitty cat. My cat goes out every morning and grazes on grass as well. If she eats too much she pucks, some experts say its to make them throw up because of an upset tummy, others say its because of hairballs, while others say its the nutrients in the plants itself, what ever the reason your cat likes the taste of grass, try buying a few selective variates of grasses for your kitty from the local nursery. Something that kitty can safely eat, like a spider plants, oat and wheat grasses regular lawn grasses, purple African grasses. with the chooses of different variates she may throw up less and be more selective in her munchies. And most herbs are good for kitty as well. Every time she gets into the plants that are not for munching then use pepper or canine pepper something that is not good tasting for kitty so she will realize what plants are for her and what isn't for her.

It is a built in instinct for cats to eat grass. By eating grass your cat knows that she has a upset stomach for whatever reason. As for house plants and flowers, this may not be such a good idea. Some house plants and flowers are poisenous to cats. Do your cat a favor and either remove all house plants or have them hung on high hooks from the ceiling, where she can't get to them.

Some pet stores or vets carry a brand of cat grass you can grow and cats do seem to love the fact they have their own to eat. By growing your own will ensure that your cat is not exposed to any chemicals or other harmful plants and bugs.

If all your attempts don't work, take your cat to the vet. He or she will examine your cat and tell you what is wrong with her.

Good luck to you and your cat! Cats and dogs make wonderful pets and friends to us humans to enjoy for a life time!

well you really don't want to put a muzzle on your cat. I know you may think that shes sick or something but believe me i'm dr. kenders everyone calls me sweetone. the reason your cat does that is when a cat feels sick they will eat any kind of vegitation what so ever to make theirselves regugatate.(puke) but don't worry about it and let it run its course. I don't think that you should break the habit unless it gets down to the very serious marker. The best way to break her with out hurting her. is buy you a spray bottle and feel it with water and every time you catch her spray her with the water and say "no". That should help. If you have anymore questions. please e-mail me at sweetone_4_u20062008@yahoo.com. i hope this helped.

Most animals eat grass to calm an upset stomach. The vomiting after is getting rid of the stomach contents. However, your cat seems to have a more serious problem and I strongly encourage you to take her to your vet for a full exam.

my vet always told us this was a normal healthy thing, keep her away from know poisonous house plants, and go get her some of that nice cat grass in a box that they sell at the pet store, she will just love having her own little patch to play in

This helps kitty flush out hairballs. If it is getting to a point where it is excessive then you need to see your vet. Cat's also do this for basic stomach discomfort. Find out what's causing that, and you may stop the grass munching. Good luck.

yes, they love it! But its best not to let them eat grass outside because there could be pestisides on it . You should get cat grass, specially made for cats at petsmart or petco!
