Talking about high cost of living, this is why many locals from the islands are moving from Hawai'i to the States because they find lots more cheaper to live. Ok example say you want to buy a gallon of milk make sure you have 6-7 dollars on hand. How bout gas ok my mom is paying about 3.60$ a gallon at some places, maybe even higher. Oh rent rent alone will hurt your pocket book. 900$ for a studio/1bd. up to about 2400$ for a 3bd. I just recently was told that everyone there will be getting a higher water bill and electric bill.
I am a local from Hawai'i currently living in Tennessee because hubby is in the military. I want to go back home to buy my own house and say that I have a piece of my own Hawai'i but its just plain ridicilous, To buy a house there I can buy a house here int the states that would cost less than a house in Hawai'i for,
Example: There is house near my parents its going for a starting bid at 385,000$ for a 3bd/1 1/2 ba. including land. Now you can buy a house here in the states for 1/4 of that. So I hope this my information can be informative for you. I'm not dissing you on moving to Hawai'i, by all means, but you don't want to end up moving to Hawai'i and later on realizing down the road that you are packing up to move right back home to the States. Good Luck

The costs of living in Oahu and the state of Hawaii are very high. The reason is that almost all manufactured and processed goods must be imported. Therefore shipping and transportation costs add to the wholesale and retail prices. Additionally, imported fruits and vegatables can spoil while in transit, increasing costs.

yes it is high, very high, extremely high, insanely high! that's why Hawaii has a huge homeless problem people of ALL ages are living in tents on the beaches (mostly the Hawaiian homestead beaches unfortunately) and it can only get worse when a studio going for $425 a month is considered a steal

Just got back from seeing my husband. Gas was 327. Gallon of milk is over 4 dollar. I'm pretty sure they tax food there. Renting a 3 bed room small unit appartment is 1700 a month. Everything is all most double there.
