Believing something like that is just like believing Friday the 13th is bad luck. Its what some people think but a good portion of it is if you give it the power to happen. I have never heard about having 2 dogs being unlucky but I wouldn't let it decide if you get another dog or not.

I have never heard of that superstition, and even looked it up on www.oldsuperstitions.com. Here are all the superstitions regarding dogs that they have listed:
A dog eating grass - rain
Meeting a dog - good luck (especially Dalmatians)
A greyhound with a white spot on its forehead - good fortune
Being followed by a strange dog - bad luck (especially black dogs)
The spectral black dog (barguest) - a harbinger of death
A dog howling for no reason - unseen spirits
A dog howling three times - A death has occurred
At one time a dog that had bitten someone was immediately destroyed to protect the person from rabies (even if the dog was healthy)
So I think your mom might be making up an excuse to hide the real reason why she doesn't want to take in the new dog.

It's not unlucky - it's just a lot more work. People who believe in numerology and other superstitions are not going to be swayed by reasonable arguments, so don't waste your time. Get as many dogs as you want when you have your own place - I've found that three is the most that I can take care of and give full attention to.

As a person with 2 yorkies in the home (I have one and dtr has one) not seeing sign of unlucky having 2. I usu recommend 2 to keep each other company. You do not say what your other dog is but: There is a saying about yorkies. They are like potato chips can't have just one.

How absurd! Having two dogs is actually lucky because then they have a companion to play with when you are busy. However if your mom is unable to care for your one dog properly then she shouldn't have another one. If she is able I want her to do something for me. When she sees this Yorkie pup again, I want her to look deep into the dog's eyes and imagine what it would be like when 2 hours or 7 days from now those eyes close for the last time. Never again will they twinkle with bright happiness or love. If your mom can send this dog to her death then I am unable to help.

Your mother said having two dogs is unlucky because she doesn't want two dogs. It's unlucky to have too many mouths to feed. If she can only afford one dog, it would be her bad luck to have to pay for food and vet care for two.

I have several dogs & always have. I have never heard of that superstition. Sounds like your mom just doesn't want another dog. Where I live purebred yorkies cost $600-$900 each. So even If it goes to the pound, I'm sure it won't be there long.

It's gotta be true because nobody could possibly find that amusing, at least nobody with an IQ over 7. Wait, there are plenty of people on this site that have an IQ in the single digits. Nevermind, it's a buch of BS.

Having two dogs isn't bad luck. Where did she even hear that?!? We've got six dogs here, and so far, no bad luck. Actually, I'd rather have 2 dogs other than just one.
