Anyway, back to advice....how long have you been seeing this person? If its like a first date kinda thing, don't go all out, it might be seen as (although very nice) trying to buy your way in, (if you know what i mean).
If you know this girl well, not many girls are into poetry nowadays...sweet idea, but thats for whispering later on in the date...stuff like perfumes, bracelets (particularly)...
Bit late to ask, but how old are you? If you aren't young enough to know what someone her ages likes, maybe you are too old to be thinking about a 16 year old girl.....

When I was 16, all I wanted was an opal ring. It's my birthstone. A romantic poem would be nice too, but maybe get her some bling to go with it.

Both are good. Spend less money and put more thought into the small things.
Do many small things for her, such as, being thoughtful.
Cards, love letters, a flower for no special reason.

both, a stuff animal always gets a girl no matter how old, get her a dog or something with a card, u can write ur feelings in the card
