Some say they are sexist, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, intolerant of all other faiths and indeed a bona fide hate group. Is this accurate?

Baptist Christian terrorists are active in India's North-East and they derive their financial support from the southern parts of the USA where the Baptist Church has a strong following. Funds are collected in the form of donations in various church establishments in the name of evangelical work. However, it has been suspected for a long time that a part of this fund gets diverted for buying arms for the Baptist terrorists of the North-East. Our ex-Chief Election Commissioner, T.N. Seshan, gave voice to this suspicion in a television panel discussion on Doordarshan as early as in 1993. Our Army is baffled by the seemingly unending supply of sophisticated and expensive supply of arms and equipment flooding into our North-East. All terrorists of various hues, the so-called Darjeeling Gorkha, the so-called Kamtapuri, Bodo, Ulfa, Naga, Manipuri, Tripuri etc, are flush with automatic rifles, land mines, remote control devices and so on. Money generated by the local extortion of businessmen and citizens account for only a small fraction. Therefore the greater part must be coming from abroad. It is suspected that the funds come from Islamic sources such as the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan, the Gulf states etc. and Christian sources such as the Baptist Church in southern USA and the Presbyterian Church of the UK.

The most prominent among the terrorist outfits of Tripura is the NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura). It employs terror tactics to effect mass conversion to Christianity (The Statesman 1999, 2000; Ghosh 1999) and is a predominantly Baptist (Protestant) organisation.

It should be noted that the most dominant church in the Khasi hills is Presbyterian (Protestant) which is based in the UK. Christian terrorists have been active in various States of North-East India for a long time. Recently they have spread to North Bengal also. Reverend John Thwaites, a Protestant priest who had been in North Bengal for over three decades, was asked to leave the country in January 2001. No reason was given and he defied the order. The West Bengal Government quietly arrested and prosecuted him. There were demonstrations by his sympathisers during the trial which ended in August 2001. The judge sentenced him to three months simple imprisonment following which he was to be deported to his native land of the United Kingdom.

It is inconceivable that those in southern United States who collect funds for the Baptist Church's evangelical work in India have no inkling of the end use of that fund. One among several end uses is buying weapons for organised terrorism.

Well being a Catholic in the Bible Belt I can definatly tell you that some of those are true about some of the people. I had a 'friend' not talk to me for three weeks when she found out I was Catholic, but then again I know a wondeful spiritual Baptist girl who is actually genuine.

Personally, Baptists aren't my favorite, seeing as how most of the Baptists I know are pretty hypocritical (someone I know uses the excuse 'God told me to' everytime she breaks up with someone), and their relationship with God seems (dare I say it) almost childish ("Omg God is like soooo awesome").

But there are some good ones out there, and it's those that help me keep an open mind, even though it can be really, really hard.

Shall we re-word this, they are bible teaching, moral people.

So they beleive that there are some roles for the various sexs and that a home is a man and wife each in thier own roles.

There is no such thing as homophobic, people are not scared of sodomites, they feel sorry for them, they may be sick of hearing about thier sick sexual life styles, but never scared of them. The sodomites are the ones actually scared of people with moral values, since they can't fool them into accepting pervserse live styles.

And hold true in your faith and not accepting sinful ways may be intolerant but that is a good thing not a bad thing.

So is it not the sexist who is scared of certain values, or the sexually perverted person who is scared of the moral value that are really the intorlerant, since they don't want people to have values, since it would ruin thier agenda

Oh boy. What a question to ask a girl from the Bible Belt. I won't say anything demeaning about anyone. I will tell you this: Not everyone from this area is "Southern Baptist." I, frankly, will not follow the ways of them. I will probably get patronized, but I don't care. I don't even go to church anymore because when I became pregnant (un-wed), I was told I would go to Hell for being an unwed pregnant woman, and that God would never ever forgive me. It completely turned me against going to church ever again.

Well....guess what. God and I have our own relationship, and I am comfortable it. He and I are perfectly fine without all the politics of the Church. I don't think you absolutely must be a member of any church to have beliefs and respect for God - YOUR God, whomever He may be.

I was raised a Baptist and the primary trait for most Baptists is HYPOCRISY (in capital letters).

Baptists have all kinds of prohibitions against anything that might be entertaining (drinking, dancing, music, etc.) but actively encourage hatred and racism (Baptists claim black people are descended from Cain and are the same as animals).

Obviously, Baptists are as varied as any other large, but institutionally, Baptists are a hate group. They just use the bible to justify their hatred.

I'm sure they're some of all of that.

What scares me is when movies like "Last Temptation" or "The DaVinci Code" come out and they immediately organize "bible studies" around the movies. It's as though they are scared of what is depicted within the movies and feel the need to make sure the congregation knows what they should think about it.

There's nothing worse than mind control. Think for yourself, people!

I was raised going to Southern Baptist churches, and I've got to tell you.....there was a LOT of intolerant talk. Here are some examples:

***The ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) was really a hot topic. We females were told that if she went after better jobs and/or better pay that a MAN with a family would have to do without because of our selfishness.

***As children we were taught the "Jesus Loves the Little Children" song..........YET..........this happened in real life at that church: Our new, young minister invited a down-on-his luck man to attend our services. ... the guy just happened to be black. I myself was around 8 yrs old, and most of my friends were not white, so I didn't think anything of the guy's color.

After church service was finished, the crowd divided into its usual little groups of old ladies, families, deacons, etc. I was going around from group to group (hoping to score some gum) and almost every group was whispering about "that black guy coming into OUR church" ..... and ..... "we're gonna have to get rid of that preacher because he invited that black person to OUR church" ......

I quickly thought of this song and started singing loudly, "Jesus loves the little children all the children of the world.... Red and yellow BLACK and white, they are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world....." You would not believe the angry looks I got after I did that.

***We were also preached to that sex was a sin (but most of the married women were pregnant!)

***We were told that "ungodly sex" would send you to hell (They never clarified what ungodly was, but as I got older I came to catch the subtle hints at homosexuality as the culprit.)

***There was often talk of the Catholics going to hell for the perceived oddities of their faith....

All of this occurred 25 years ago and earlier. I have since decided being an atheist is the best route for me.

I am a christian who grew up southern baptist. Yes, there are some that are " overzealous" if that is the right word, but all of the ones that I have been associated with, including myself are not. God bless you, have a great day.

I didn't know just how weird Baptists can be until former Attorney General John Ashcroft wouldn't dance with his own wife at his own inaugural ball.
