what cause your bad feeling before you sleep? work on it first. perhaps you have to discuss this with your psychiatrist to overcome your bad past experiences.
if you want additional help, try meditation class, anything which can help you to control your mind, and drink some fine herbal for relaxation, this is not drugs, so it wont have side affects. you can google it to find them. such as camomile tea, and many more.

You might want to seek counseling. It is nothing against you at all. But if you have had awful experiences in the past you may need additional help to get rid of fears that you can not get rid of on your own.
Otherwise pray. Pray long and hard before you go to sleep.
If you do not believe in God or even if you do also do some relaxation techniques every night before you go to sleep. Think about all the good things that happened to you during the day and block out the bad things.
Remind yourself that you are strong and safe and nothing can get you now.
Good luck!

Nightmares are caused by bad thoughts in your head. To get rid of nightmares, you must first get rid of these feelings and thoughts that are clogging up your head while you sleep. Here are several things to try to get you to relax-
1. Read a book before you turn the lights out. It will leave you thinking about the book, rather than something bad that happened in the past.
2. Pray or mediate before you sleep. Find your inner peace. Let your self r-e-l-a-x.
3. Take a nice, warm bath and paper yourself for a day.
4. Maybe you need to get your thoughts OUT of your head..... by talking about it to someone. Like a phsycoloigist or a close friend. Once you know you that not only YOU is worrying about these problems that are causing nightmares, you can relax.
Hope this helps!

Just because you had some terrible experiences in the past doesn't mean that you'll have nightmares, because nightmares are just your imagination going insane while you sleep. My sister used to tell me if you repeat the same image through your brain as you're going to sleep, you may have a dream of what you were thinking of. Maybe as you go to sleep you keep thinking about those bad experiences in the past and that is what is causing your bad dreams? Perhaps try not to think about them.
If they really are bothering you maybe you could seek help from someone.

Nightmares can definatly be awful. I have suffered from these in the past due to the way I grew up. It took me a long time to rid them. IWhat I do before I go to bed is try to think of happy thoughts and take a relaxing bath with an herbel tea. This works for me. I hope you will find it helps for you as well.

See a psychologist, we can't begin to understand the terrible experiences of your past nor why you don't feel safe at night. Short of that try taking a sleeping pill when you go to bed...we only remember dreams if we wake up during them, a sleeping pill will keep you asleep all night. Best wishes

Well, everytime i get nightmares, i eat before i go to bed. So now i make sure i avoid eating before bed. Now if you had bad exeriences in the and are over it, id say see someone. But if you dontwant to, watch a feel good movie before bed. Like a love story. Listen to soothing music.

try to find the meaning of some of them, maybe your sub-concious is trying to tell you something or maybe you watch too many scary movies. For me I hang a dreamcatcher up (but I am part native american and dreams are important). I have dreams all the time, but if they really bother you then try writing them down in a journal, to think about later or if you are religious, then pray.

think positive. the past is the past, we can never change that. if you get nightmares, try and control them. I had a nightmare before, and I unconsciously said, "THIS IS JUST A DREAM..."
after a few days, it ended.
nightmares are a part of our existence, it's how you see it.

Purchase a large dog and let it sleep at the foot of your bed at night so that you feel safe.
